Position Overview:

We are expanding our team and need someone who is versatile and passionate about technology to assist in supporting our cloud infrastructure and programs’ operations. The candidate is expected to provide repeatable solutions, thought leadership and delivery excellence for Soliya’s set of core solutions. As DevOps Engineer, you should be able to execute architecture blueprints and bring it to reality, build and configure build plans, code pipelines and create automated solutions. Finally, the candidate should become subject matter experts and evangelize the latest technologies and tools to provide better efficiency and solutions to other teams.

Soliya is a global non-profit headquartered in New York, that combines best practices for constructive dialogue with innovative use of new media technologies to shift the way societies resolve their differences from a confrontational & coercive approach to one defined by cooperation & compassion. Soliya aims to develop a diverse and global community of young adults who individually and collectively use new media and communication technologies to promote understanding and empathy within and between their societies. Our mission is global, but our current focus is on strengthening relationships and fostering cooperation between youth from Western and predominantly Muslim societies.

Soliya’s Connect Program is a unique cross-cultural virtual exchange program that directly connects university students in North America, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia using a web-based videoconferencing application.  Guided by Soliya-trained volunteer facilitators, participating students collaboratively explore issues that currently divide Western and predominantly Muslim societies by engaging in intensive, structured dialogue, and creating videos and other projects addressing relevant themes.  Volunteers and alumni from the Connect Program also form the foundation for the Soliya Community, a vibrant and global network designed to inspire and empower a community of young people to promote cross-cultural understanding in their societies.  

In the last ten years, Soliya’s Connect Program has gone from being the idea of two young social entrepreneurs with backgrounds in new media and conflict resolution to an established organization with over 100 universities in 28 countries, connecting thousands of students worldwide.

Job Responsibilities:

The IT AWS Administrator will report directly to the Director of IT, and will have the following responsibilities:

• Setup and maintain various services and support tools, primarily on AWS
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
• Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
• Assist in the integration of new systems and tools into the technical support flow and infrastructure
• Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
• Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports
• Manage the relationships with universities, students, and volunteers
• Liaise with other IT personnel and partners for problem resolution, and drive troubleshooting and resolution tasks when necessary
• Training and assist in developing training material for internal team and external users on the online platform and technical issues
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
• Assist in the maintenance of the internal Linux and Windows development environments
