Our North Africa operations are based in Tunis. From there we deliver a portfolio of media projects, and work to ensure they are delivered on time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and BBC Media Action best practice.

Overall Purpose of the mission

The Social Media Content Producer is an essential member of the team seeking to provide innovative and engaging ways to produce content for BBC Media Action’s Algeria’s projects. through the creation and moderation of a social media group to keep the BBC Media Action trainees engaged through regular posts celebrating effective content, reviewing concepts, sharing footage and contacts, and posting and discussing some research findings) and using online tools to fact-check opinions and rumours the trainees are encountering.

The design and preparation of a weekly two-page PDF document in French in a standard, professional layout. Each week the document will cover one timely priority topic (for example: the science of masks; the psychology of self-isolation; advice on being an effective father when schools are closed; the process of vaccine development) and will include the key facts, a summary of different reasonable positions held, and contact information for people and organisations in Algeria and elsewhere of people with expertise or interesting perspectives on the topic. The Social Media Content Producer will play a key role in creating content (videos, graphics, captions, documents, and photographs). He/she will work closely with the Project Manager to integrate social media/ web content with TV outputs. He/she will uphold BBC social media editorial guidelines and help train staff, trainees and CSOs on social media skills.

The Social Media Content Producer will be tasked by Project Manager and Country Director, although s/he will also be expected to be proactive in collecting and producing tailored content for the social Media as well as developing, implementing, and monitoring social media strategies. Attention to detail is vital, as well as a can-do attitude and extremely strong relationship management and networking skills.

Main duties and accountabilities:

  • Produce innovative and original content specially tailored for social media and digital platforms.
  • Seek out relevant audio, visual and audio-visual content from the production team (and any other relevant partner sources) and package it for social media.
  • Develop graphic look and feel of social media platforms in consultation with Project team.
  • Organise live social media interaction.
  • Work with BBC Media Action Research & Learning team to develop insightful social media research.
  • Help ensure that BBC editorial values and guidelines for social media are upheld in Algeria projects.
  • Look for new social media trends and recommend how learnings can be applied to BBC Media Action North Africa projects
  • Work with the Alumni Network in developing engaged.
  • Participate in information and knowledge sharing with other teams across BBC Media Action including the Editorial Development Team.
  • Support interpreted training courses that have an online component, as requested.
  • Create social media content inspired from BBC and BBC Media Action researches and resources.
  • Other duties assigned during the consultancy.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Excellent audio-visual content for digital and social media production skills and Excellent social media skills
  • Interest in learning about new trends in social media and communicating how insights can be applied to BBC Media Action projects in North Africa
  • Efficient and organised with good attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, French and Arabic
  • Excellent IT and formatting skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Experience in creating top-performing storytelling across a variety of content types
  • Experience in editing with different software such as (Final Cut and Adobe Photoshop)
  • Ability to work under pressure, to multi-task and coordinate between multiple partners/stakeholders and BBC Media Action.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of/ interest in media & social Media landscape in North Africa, particularly in Algeria
  • Experience in developing and implementing new and innovative approaches to social media, telling complex stories in an engaging way using a variety of text, video, and social media.( Desirable)
  • Proven editorial judgement and flair, with a track record of making sound decisions on matters of editorial sensitivity quickly. ( Desirable)
  • Knowledge of BBC editorial values or equivalent aims and objectives, and an ability to apply these to media development projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong editorial judgment and uphold good journalistic practice and principles.
