SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities. With a total of approximately 800 staff worldwide and 99 percent of the staff being local national staff, Search implements projects from 53 offices and in 33 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.

Summary of the Position

Search for Common Ground’s Children & Youth division seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a specialist on youth participation and engagement. The specialist will oversee and provide technical assistance and guidance on youth engagement in a project in Tunisia, titled Ma3an, as well as provide technical expertise on youth participation and engagement for Search’s teams in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Working under the Children & Youth Programs Director, the selected candidate will be part of the Children & Youth division, based in Tunisia, and report to the Search-Ma3an team leader in Tunisia.
More about the Ma3an program: the Ma3an program aims to increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improve the capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability. Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical oversight, advice and support to Search-Ma3an staff and partners on youth participation in design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Identify and build Search-Ma3an capacity on context-specific tools, methodologies and resources on youth engagement and participation
  • Analyse, document and codify effective practices, lessons learned, and results on youth engagement and participation from the Ma3an project
  • Participate and provide expert technical inputs in all consultations, workshops and meetings with governmental counterparts involved in the Ma3an project, as appropriate
  • Facilitate exchange of knowledge and experience around youth engagement and participation between the Search-Ma3an team and Search Tunisia and regional teams
  • Review regional evaluations, research, case studies, etc. on youth participation to capture programmatic insights and lessons for Search-Ma3an team
  • Support and expand partnerships and collaboration with formal and informal youth groups, networks, and movements to inform and strengthen the Ma3an program
  • Advance research and testing on the Children and Youth division’s key lines of inquiry and innovation on youth participation through Ma3an programming lessons and results
  • Represent Search and the Children and Youth division in the region for key youth-specific meetings, conferences, events, and advocacy and policy efforts to connect and exchange results and lessons from Ma3an
  • Work closely with the Search-Ma3an team members as well as Search’s Tunisia, MENA regional, and Institutional Learning teams.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Duration:

Initial 12-month contract (CDD), extendable, with a starting date as soon as possible.

شروط الترشّح

  • Technical expertise in or background on youth participation;
  • Background in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, international development, or a related field;
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience living or working in the Middle East and North Africa region, preferably Tunisia;
  • Excellent English and proficient Arabic language skills - written and oral;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
  • Ability to capture, develop, share and effectively use information and knowledge;
  • Flexibility and an ability to adapt while maintaining priorities;
  • Proactive and an ability to work independently.
  • French language proficiency;
  • Previous experience with the Common Ground Approach;
  • Previous experience working with young people in the context of peacebuilding;
  • Experience developing toolkits, programmatic guidance notes, or learning products;
  • Relationships and contacts with youth partners in Tunisia and the region;
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field;
