Project Summary

Search for Common Ground – Tunisia (Search) is currently recruiting for the position of Vulnerability Scan Officer for the USAID-funded Ma3an program, implemented in partnership with FHI360, which aims to increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability. Together with USAID-Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Search in Tunisia

Search’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) promoting peace education; (ii) fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (iv) transforming violent extremism. Key Responsibilities

The Vulnerability Scan Officer (national) will support the Ma3an Vulnerability Scan and Conflict Sensitivity Advisor in the conduction of Vulnerability Scans in different Tunisian communities.
The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • In collaboration with Ma3an Vulnerability Scan Advisor, design and draft research documentation and materials in Arabic and English to be used in field research, including but not limited to: research methodologies, data collection tools, discussion guides, and surveys.
  • In collaboration with Ma3an Vulnerability Scan Advisor, produce high quality written research outputs to be shared with the partner and donor, including final Vulnerability Scan reports and report summaries in Arabic and English.
  • Research and gather documentation on social, economic, and political vulnerabilities in Ma3an target communities.
  • Support the facilitation of focus groups and key informant interviews for Vulnerability Scans in different Ma3an target communities, including by serving as Lead Facilitator when necessary. Support the conducting of survey questionnaires and supervising local data collectors for Vulnerability Scans in different Ma3an target communities.
  • Transcribe and edit records of focus groups and key informant interviews for Vulnerability Scans. Undertake any necessary training and/or professional development.
  • Undertake appropriate administrative tasks as necessary.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration:

Full time position for one (1) year, with a possibility of extension. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to start immediately.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • An undergraduate degree in sociology, psychology, political sciences, international relations, international development, or related field; Master's Degree preferred;
  • Previous experience in qualitative data collection is required, including previous experience designing and facilitating Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English and Arabic;
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly in English and Arabic;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative social research methods;
  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature;
  • Ability to travel to different regions inside the country;
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of people and stakeholders;
  • Ability to organize own work with minimum supervision;
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Flexible attitude towards work;
  • Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.
