Search in Tunisia

Search for Common Ground’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia. Search is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Education/Pedagogical Specialist for the Ma3an program. The Ma3an program aims to increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability. Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Your contribution

The Senior Education/Pedagogical Specialist will serve as a member of the Ma3an technical team and will work with the Senior Technical Advisor, the School-Based Youth Engagement Advisor and the other members of the Education team. S/he will participate in the development of tools and activities to support middle and high school teachers and administrators in providing meaningful opportunities of civic engagement for youth.

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Work closely with the Ma3an education team to support the development of a civic engagement guide for middle and high schools.
• Support middle and high -school teachers in providing civic engagement courses in schools to engage youth in community-based learning and guided interaction with local institutions and service providers.
• Providing high level technical expertise to all work being performed under the Education component of the Ma3an project, ensuring all educational approaches, tools and methodologies are up the highest quality standards and reflect latest international practices in this field.
• Participate and provide expert technical inputs in all education-related consultations, workshops and meetings with governmental counterparts
• Contribute to the development of tools and methodologies to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the developed tools/guide/activities.
• Contribute to the training of teachers and school administrators on the use of the civic engagement guide.
• Coordinate data collection with teachers in schools
• Support the organization and the facilitation of quarterly follow-up workshop.
• Contribute to the mid-term assessment of the guide (roll-out, impact and his use) throughout the implementation phase.
• Conduct technical research and improvement of methodologies as needed to maximize the guide’s effectiveness.
• Work with the Senior Technical Advisor, The School-Based Youth Engagement Advisor and other members of the education team.

Duration: initial 12-month contract (CDD), extendable, with start date mid-June
