Position title: Senior Researcher & Editor

Form of employment: Full-time contract

Starting date: December 2020

Duration: 4 months with possibility of renewal

Location: Tunis, Tunisia

Background :

Belady – an island for humanity, is a human rights organization that advocates for civil and political rights and aims at promoting transparency and accountability and curbing violations. We operate from our three country-based offices including Tunisia. 

Since 2013, Belady has been documenting human rights violations that occur in Egypt against women and children in prisons and detention centers as well as during trail procedures. The main activities of our research department include data collection, assessment, and analysis, drafting and publishing regular and contextual research, briefing papers, studies, and other advocacy materials. 

Belady is currently contracting a senior researcher who will be responsible of redefining and improving our research strategies operating from our Tunis-based office.

Role and responsibilities:

1- Research & evaluation (60% of allocated time)

• Revise the research library of Belady to prepare an evaluation report including most significant strengths and weaknesses of our studies and reports and recommendations/best practice to our research department to improve the quality of our research products. 
• Prepare 2021’s timeline of research and publications based on national and international calendars as celebrations, international days etc. 
• Define the strategies of above studies including data analysis, lead them and have the final look on the deliverables.
• Train research team in improving their research and writing.
• Edit existing unpublished research projects and evaluation reports.

2- Data quality assessment (30% allocated time)

Lead a data quality assessment of Belady’s database to prepare an evaluation report including most significant strengths and weaknesses as well as recommendations to improve our data collection and entry systems.

3- Other (10% of allocated time)

Other duties as requested from Belady such as translation, drafting narrative reports, final revision, etc.
