Position Vacancy : Project Assistant

Location : Tunis, Tunisia

NOTE: This position requires written and oral fluency in the English and Arabic languages.

Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments
deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities. With a total of approximately 600 staff worldwide, SFCG implements projects from 55 offices in 34 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and the United States. Search for Common Ground in Tunisia

Search for Common Ground-Tunisia aims to help members of Tunisian society approach conflicts and differences in a constructive manner, through cooperation and dialogue. SFCG-Tunisia is working through multiple channels to build the capacity of civil society, the media and public institutions to approach challenges through cooperation and dialogue. Search for Common Ground-Tunisia currently includes a team of 20+ staff.

Women’s Dialogue Project

SFCG’s Women’s Dialogue Project (funded by the British embassy in Tunis) aims to bring together Tunisians across ideological lines and to reduce polarization and divisions among Tunisian women.
Since 2013, 14 women’s CSOs from across the liberal-conservative spectrum have been engaged in a dialogue that has improved personal relationships across deep political divides, increased mutual understanding of and respect for one another’s positions, differences and beliefs and led to a recognition of the existence of common ground between them. The dialogue successfully decreased tensions and addressed stereotypes between leaders of varied groups.
Search for Common Ground-Tunisia is now committed to further supporting this women’s CSOs platform to expand cooperation on women’s issues across the political spectrum by engaging with their base and respective constituencies as well as promoting women’s advocacy goals.

 

Project Assistant responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Program Manager to:
  • Conduct programmatic, administrative and financial duties related to all aspects of project implementation
  • Maintain effectively communication systems and ensure information flow between project and relevant parties and partners.
  • Visit organizations and conduct mission to field as necessary in consultation with the Senior Program Manager
  • Prepare tracking documents for meetings, and update tracking tools regularly
  • Taking meeting minutes, typing and distributing to stakeholders and partners
  • Arrange necessary logistics for the activities of the project, such as workshops and trainings e.g. organize accommodation for participants, photocopy of materials, arrange transport, etc.
  •  Making travel arrangements for site visits
  •  Manage project calendars (scheduling meeting, lunches, etc.)
  •  Research and gather materials for the project
  •  Translate documents from English/French to Arabic
  •  Assist in the preparation and drafting of periodical reports

Any other duties as reasonable requested by supervisors and in line with organizational priorities

Qualifications

  •  Current or recent graduate with a background in political science, gender studies, conflict resolution;
  •  Knowledge of and interest in women’s rights;
  • Advanced proficiency in English (reading, writing) – a language assessment will be administered to applicants indicating English knowledge;
  •  And/or advanced proficiency in Arabic (speaking, reading, writing) – a language assessment will be administered to applicants indicating Arabic knowledge;
  •  Well-organized, skilled at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, high attention to detail;
  •  A good knowledge of IT tools (word, Excel, PowerPoint) ;
  •  Excellent writing skills.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education, with benefits.
