SFCG’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. SFCG works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. SFCG-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, SFCG-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia.

We are searching for…

Search for Common Ground (SFCG) Tunisia and its partner, Big Bad Boo Productions (BBB), with the support of the Canadian Embassy, are implementing a pilot educational program on civic and peace values for Tunisian schoolchildren and adapted to the needs of primary schools. This program also includes the creation of peace clubs in the “Maison des Jeunes” in each targeted community.The project “1001 NIGHTS Curriculum program for peace education and promoting civic values” aims to build and strengthen individual and community resilience at the child and family level and to facilitate relationships between youth, families, and local authorities. It also aims to prevent violence by building the capacity of young adolescents and children to become more resilient to violent narratives. The main program element is a cartoon series called “1001 Nights”. This TV series contains 40 episodes that are also learning lessons transmitted to students each week. Students watch an episode, discuss it with their teacher and peers and afterwards, engage in community activities under the Peace Clubs mentorship.

Your contribution

The Junior Project Assistant will be responsible for back-stopping implementation of this project and will directly support the Project Manager. The Junior Project Assistant will lead and directly implement community activities. The position will report directly and primarily to the Project Manager as well as to the Program Director and Country Director. The working languages for this position are French, Arabic and English.

The roles and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Support the implementation of activities in schools by providing logistic support and guidance to educators as needed before, during, and after curriculum implementation;
  • Conduct regular field visits, attending different project activities to ensure their quality, and communicating with the key local stakeholders to create/maintain trust and engagement.
  • Provide logistic support as needed to ensure smooth organization of all project activities;
  • Assist the Project Manager in liaising with project partners and stakeholders;
  • Compile site visit reports throughout project implementation to monitor progress of activities and highlight results, challenges, any deviations from projected workplans, and successes;
  • Help prepare activities’ reports as well as quarterly narrative reports for donors, in compliance with SFCG and donor requirements and in collaboration with SFCG’s regional team and HQ.
  • Assist with communication and visibility aspects of the program, in collaboration with SFCG’s Media & Communications Officer, through written material, photos, success stories, updated website, social media and traditional media.
  • Supervise or lead the collection of data during curriculum implementation in schools and peace club activities;
  • Participate in focus groups held for the project and provide other support as needed
  • Contribute creative ideas for program development and develop technical and financial proposals to local and international donors to sustain the ongoing program
  • Attend representational meetings with donors, NGO coordination, Ministries and etc.
  • Be engaged in the continuing development of the organization, its mission and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge, particularly contributing to its Institutional Learning.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration: 12-month contract

This position will close on September 20, 2018

 

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human science, Education, Political sciences,or related field.
  • A previous experience in related programs, preferably in peace education, is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the Tunisian education system, pedagogical strategies, childhood development
  • Strong capacity to work in a team and collaborate for success
  • Dynamic person with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations
  • Demonstrated experience working with local partners.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels, ranging from high-level officials to community leaders
  • Professional-level competency in Arabic, French and English, both orally and in writing;
  • Willingness to regularly travel on short notice around the country.
  • Computer proficiency
  • Interest in peacebuilding and conflict transformation
  • Ability to work well under pressure with strong attention to details 
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in dialogue, peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
  • Excellent coordination, communication and networking skills;
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often challenging environment with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to details, and coordinate and compile information from various sources. 
  • Flexibility and capacity to adapt to evolving contexts.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work independently;
  • Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way.
