SFCG’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of
all parts of society while building their capacities. SFCG works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian
society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. SFCGTunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local
authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences
and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, SFCG-Tunisia has four main
strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii)
Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia.

Position Summary
SFCG is currently recruiting for the position of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor for
USAID Tunisia Resilience and Community Empowerment (TRACE) program, which will increase the
capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the
objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3)
improved capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. TRACE will spur 30 of
Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in
areas that are vulnerable to instability and violent extremism (VE). Together with USAID/Tunisia’s
programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and
Mashrou3i), TRACE will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Key Responsibilities
The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor will serve as a member of the technical
team managed by SFCG and will report on programmatic deliverables to the TRACE Senior Technical
Advisor. (S)he will have overall responsibility to ensure TRACE is informed by a progressive gender and
social inclusion (GESI) approach, with resultant activities that minimize vulnerabilities for youth, women,
and other marginalized populations by tailoring interventions to their needs. The GESI Advisor will lead on
GESI training and mentoring for staff and local partners. The GESI Advisor will collaborate closely with
the Regional Program Managers, partners, and other technical and grants staff

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  •  Provide technical design and implementation support to local partners and regional staff to
    ensure a GESI approach in TRACE target communities where community members are actively
    engaged as participants and leaders in the full cycle of design, management, and evaluation of
    community activities;
  • Provide technical design and implementation support to local partners and regional staff in GESI
    approaches and methodologies;
  • Train and collaborate with staff and partners in TRACE GESI methodologies and provide ongoing
    technical support and guidance;
  •  Assist the Senior Technical Advisor and Deputy Chief of Party with the design and development
    of the TRACE GESI methodology and adjust methodology, as needed, after implementation and
    learning;
  •  Coordinate regularly with Regional Program Managers in all offices to ensure that activities are in
    alignment with program goals;
  • Support the monitoring, evaluation, and learning (ME&L) team and program staff in integrating a
    Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) GESI approach into community-level program
    activities;
  • Collaborate with the TRACE Communications Specialist to find and post relevant resources and
    events on the planned TRACE Facebook page;
  • Ensure that activities are infused with principles of GESI TRACE strategy;
  •  Conduct technical research and improvement of methodologies, as needed.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties
that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration: initial 12 month contract (CDD), extendable for up to 5 years, with start date midNovember., 2018

Critères d'éligibilité

  • BS/BA or its international equivalent in International relations, Human & social sciences, Gender Studies or a related field; Master's Degree preferred;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience with at least 3 years in a senior technical role on donor-funded programs related to Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, community development, youth engagement, local governance, or civil society strengthening projects
  • Experience with USAID rules and regulations and experience working in an international NGO environment highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Gender Equality and Social Inclusion and conflict mitigation approaches
  • Strong understanding of the political and social context in Tunisia;
  • Fluent in written and oral Arabic, English, and French.
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in gender, minority groups, peacebuilding and conflict transformation
  • Excellent coordination, communication (verbal and written) and networking skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often challenging environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail, and coordinate and compile information from various sources.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work independently;
  • Flexibility and capacity to adapt to evolving contexts
  • Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way
