The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is a think tank affiliated with the German Left Party. We are working in North Africa since 2011 and have registered our regional office in Tunis in 2014. RLS is financed by public funds through the German ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ).

Context

Since the outset of the Arab Spring several countries in North Africa are in a transition to more democracy, political participation and greater social justice. But economic policies are still based on the same economic models, which have contributed to the dire socio-economic situation that led to the Arab uprisings of 2011. This is one of the main reasons that prevents the development radical thinking about socio-economic transformation. Most progressive movements and academics alike lack constructive answers to the structural economic crisis (chronicle debt crisis, unemployment, trade and monetary dependencies).

RLS North Africa wants to contribute to critical economic analyses and to the debate on alternative economic theories (De-Growth, New green deal, alternative industrial development). We would like to connect Tunisian activists and critical economists with progressive movements and academics in other parts of Africa and Europe in order to promote food, energy and monetary sovereignty, social justice fair international trade relations and ecological sustainability.

Post Conditions:

Type of contract: Local contract with 6 months’ probation that can be converted into an unlimited contract

Working hours: Full time (40 hours/week)

Scope of work

• Introducing debates on alternative progressive Economic models for socio-ecological transformation to North Africa;
• Mapping of relevant actors and academics working in this field in North Africa;
• Creating a network between progressive economists on a regional level and in cooperation with European economists that critically comments on the effects of the European neighborhood policy and proposes alternative economic strategies;
• Popularize alternative economic models through brochures and other training material;
• Further develop the scientific library of the Tunis office;
• Preparing, implementing and evaluating conferences, workshops and lectures in this framework and managing their funding;
• Supporting partners in the preparation of projects, events and researches including administration and full documentation procedures;
