Mission and objectives

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the global leader in the fight for global peace, security, human rights, and developed. UNODC helps promotes justice and the rule of law with a view to making the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption and terrorism. Because the scale of these problems is often too great for states to confront alone, UNODC offers practical assistance and encourages transnational approaches to action. UNODC is committed to supporting Member States in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its core. UNODC works closely with Governments and civil society towards building security and justice for all. Established in 1997 in Cairo, the UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) supports Member States to be safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. ROMENA has programme offices in Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen with more than 130 personnel. The UNODC Office in Tunis plays a pivotal role in supporting Tunisian authorities through a wide array of projects spanning several thematic areas. These projects cover crucial topics such as combating drug trafficking, preventing terrorism, fostering criminal justice reform, and tackling corruption and illicit financial flows. The office works closely with national stakeholders to build capacity, enhance legal frameworks, and implement international standards and norms. By providing technical assistance, training, and policy advice, the UNODC Office in Tunis aims to bolster Tunisia’s efforts in creating a safer, more just, and resilient society. Through its comprehensive approach, the office addresses both the symptoms and root causes of crime and drug-related challenges, ensuring a holistic contribution to the country’s stability and security..

Context

The Programs Office in Tunis, operating under the auspices of the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, and provides technical support to Tunisia for the implementation of a wide range of global, regional and national programmes, focusing on the priorities highlighted on the UNODC Strategy 2021-2025, the UNODC Strategic vision for Africa 2030, and the UNODC Regional Framework for Arab States 2023-2028 via: A) Six focus areas: 1. A balanced approach to drug control 2. Strengthening the response to organized crime 3. Combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants 4. Action against corruption and financial crime 5. Preventing and countering terrorism and violence 6. Strengthening crime/violence prevention and criminal justice B) Leveraging six key accelerators 1. Partnerships 2. Women and girls 3. Innovation, science, and forensics 4. Human rights 5. Youth and children 6. Inclusive and people-cantered programming

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of UNODC Office in Tunisia , the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Assist in the development of UNODC/ UN System internal reports (Regional reports, country programme reports, UN System Result group and annual reports, …) • Assist the Programme teams in drafting meetings and activities reports • Assist the Programme teams in collecting and monitoring the projects’ performance indicators to be included in the narrative reports. • Assist the development of Concept Notes and donor reports • Draft official correspondences • Collect, register, and maintain all relevant information on programme activities, draft correspondence and ensure follow-up. – Prepare unofficial translations; – Perform other functions for the successful implementation of the programme as might be required in the scope of the current position..

Skills and experience

• Experience in the fields of UNODC mandated areas, in particular the fight against organised crime is desirable and a strong asset;

• Demonstrated interest and/or experience in organization and management of events, procurement and communication.

• Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Living conditions and remarks

UN Youth Volunteer gets the following package:

• Volunteer Living Allowance (around 1788.53 TND./Month)

• Entry Lump-Sum = USD 400 (one-time payment paid in TND)

• Comprehensive coverage for health, life and malicious acts for the UN Volunteer only.

• Exit allowance (paid on successful completion of the assignment) TND 186.3 for each month served, paid on completion of contract.
