Call for Applications: Psychological Support Programme for Students in Tataouine

Programme Overview
Hilfswerk International (HWI) launches a Psychological Support Programme aimed at students in 34 preparatory and high schools in Tataouine for the academic years 2024/2025 and 2025/2026. This initiative seeks to address the pressing issue of irregular immigration, which is often driven by lack of opportunities, and disillusionment via Kidpreneur and Youthpreneur projects. By providing bi-monthly psychological support, HWI aims to empower young individuals, enhance their self-esteem, and promote viable alternatives to irregular migration.

Context

Young people are particularly susceptible to the allure of promises of a better life abroad, often unaware of the risks associated with clandestine journeys. The absence of psychological support, lack of perspectives, and low self-esteem contribute to this vulnerability. The programme is designed to educate and support students, helping them develop skills to navigate social and familial pressures while fostering a critical understanding of the dangers of irregular immigration. This Psychological Support Programme aims to equip young individuals with the tools necessary for making informed decisions about their futures while preventing irregular immigration. By fostering self-esteem and awareness of the dangers, we propose a strong educational alternative to this pressing issue.

Objectives

  1. Provide bi-monthly psychological support to students, focusing on personal development and resilience.
  2. Increase awareness of the risks associated with irregular immigration, including human trafficking and exploitation.
  3. Enhance students’ self-esteem and critical thinking skills to enable informed decision-making.
  4. Promote civic values and national pride to strengthen the commitment to local development.

Target Audience

The programme will target students from 34 preparatory and high schools in Tataouine, particularly those identified as at-risk or in vulnerable psychological situations.

Methodology

  • Collective Sessions: Bi-monthly workshops lasting 90 minutes, led by qualified facilitators (psychologists or specialised educators) using interactive tools such as role-playing and discussions.
  • Individual Support: Personalised psychological support for identified vulnerable students, including one-on-one counseling sessions tailored to their specific needs.

Indicators of Success

  • Student attendance rates at sessions
  • Improvement in self-esteem and autonomy, measured through pre- and post-session questionnaires
  • Reduction in intentions to engage in irregular immigration, assessed through surveys
