Job Brief:

The Tunisia Project Specialist position is based in Tunis and supports the implementation and coordination of USAID funded local environmental governance program and USIP’s multi-stakeholder community dialogues and conflict transformation projects around the country. This position reports to the Project Officer and works closely with the Tunisia Country Manager and other Middle East North Africa staff.

This is a full-time position based in Tunis, Tunisia. This position is open to Host Country Nationals and legal residents in Tunisia. Hiring for this position is contingent upon funding availability. Add. NOTE: All APPLICANTS MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1) Program support: 

  • Collaborate with the USIP team, local partners, and consultants to design and implement the project activities.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships critical to the successful implementation of all activities.
  • Lead daily and weekly interactions and planning with local partners in consultation with the Project Officer.
  • Provide or contribute to agendas and documents and support drafting weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting on projects.
  • Attend, support, and monitor project activities.
  • Contribute to drafting of annual and quarterly project workplans and arrange relevant planning meetings within the office and with counterparts.
  • Provide translation and interpretation support as needed in English, Arabic, and French.
  • Collaborate with Washington and Tunis-based staff to ensure timely preparation of programmatic and financial reports to the Tunisia Country Manager, the Project Officer, Tunisia and to other entities as appropriate.
  • Follow up with partners, attend meetings, and take notes as needed.
  • Provide security and political updates as always needed and maintain a high level of security awareness.
  • Represent USIP when/where necessary.

2) Admin and logistical support:  

  • Work with the project officer to provide technical and administrative assistance to implementing partners.
  • Help manage logistical and administrative requirements for the successful implementation of peacebuilding and dialogue projects in Tunisia. This includes, but is not limited to, contract submission, document preparation for payments, vendors contracts, events coordination, and budget projections.
  • Support team members to ensure all staff follows USIP policies and procedures: security, finance, administration, and operations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

3) Reporting and M&E:  

  • Support the design of the M&E work plan and tools.
  • Lead collection and analysis of M&E data.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master preferred) in international relations, environmental science, public administration, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of related experience.
  • Relevant work experience working on USAID-funded projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of Tunisian conflict and political dynamics required; environmental, climate, and peacebuilding, thematic expertise preferred.
  • Prior experience working with civil society and governments in Tunisia
  • Demonstrated project/program implementation experience
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated analytic and writing skills. Able to write effectively in a variety of formats and for a variety of audiences in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and manage budgets.
  • Strong collaboration skills; must have the ability to coordinate the input and priorities of multiple players.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and oral required.  Additional fluency in French is preferred.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
