About the project, The National Initiative for Peace and Citizenship Education is a new phase following a two-year pilot program consisting of a C / PVE project aimed at optimizing the resilience of Tunisian children and young people to violent and extremist narratives. The project involved the Tunisian Ministry of Education as a strategic partner. The results obtained during the pilot phases led the Ministry to express its interest in developing a national curriculum that would eventually be extended to all Tunisian elementary schools.

The first phase of the national peace and citizenship education initiative involved the development of a Tunisian peace and citizenship education curriculum with the help of national and international experts in the fields of program development, child psychology, monitoring & evaluation, pedagogy and more. The Ministry supported ICCG in implementing a pilot phase during which the developed curriculum and monitoring & evaluation tools were tested in 20 schools.

During this new phase of the project, ICCG in collaboration with the Ministry of Education will continue to invest in peace and citizenship education with elementary school students and youth through peace clubs to inculcate human values in children and young people, thus helping to reduce the appeal of violent narratives among young Tunisians. During this phase of the project, ICCG will finalize the curriculum and develop extracurricular manuals that will eventually be rolled out to primary school. The project includes a second component implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sport, more specifically the National Observatory of Youth, through the creation of peace clubs in the various regions to reinforce civic engagement, dialogue and non-violent communication among young people.
