CURES Project Description:
This project is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Office of
Assistance Coordination and the aim of this project is to improve scientific research in Tunisia to
better prevent and treat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through the establishment of a
simulation center that allows doctors and medical students to apply research and test new
technologies and treatments. This opportunity aims to improve healthcare quality in Tunisia and
strengthen the business climate to become more conducive to private sector-led growth.
ACEA Project Description:
Collaborative Action for Handicraft Exports (ACEA) project in Tunisia, funded by the U.S. the Department of State. In partnership with the National Office of Handicrafts (ONAT), the goal of this project is to foster a more competitive handicraft value chain in Tunisia, leading to long-term sustainable economic growth, increased exports, and increased employment. This goal would be achieved through technical assistance to two handicrafts value chains, including the initiatives of two clusters. A first phase supported the “Natural extracts” value chain in the Northwest of Tunisia and the Olive Wood value chain in Sfax and Sidi Bouzid. While expanding support to these value chains the project will begin supporting three additional value chains in 2021.
Summary of Position:
The Project Director will provide overall management, coordination, oversight and ensure that activities are coordinated and achieve intended results for a national project portfolio. This individual will be the key liaison with funders, relevant Government of Tunisia counterparts, key project stakeholders, and other implementing partners. Her/his primary responsibilities will be aimed at providing overall leadership management of project teams including oversight of project deliverables, reporting requirements to the client and supporting general technical direction of the entire program, ensuring an integrated vision among different components and actors, and a focus on achieving the results defined in the contract. The PD will rely on Senior Technical Advisors, Technical Project Directors, and Program Managers to ensure technical alignment of project goals, technical design, implementation and coordination.
The PD will provide oversight and ensure timely performance of key project milestones, including required programmatic and financial reporting, monitoring and evaluation reporting, and coordinating marketing and communication. The PD will be expected to identify issues and risks related to program implementation in a timely manner and suggest appropriate program adjustments. S/he will supervise activity implementation and ensure the activity meets stated goals and reporting requirements. The PD position requires institutional awareness and networking skills, as s/he will interact with numerous institutions and senior national and regional-level government officials, as well as international organizations both public and private. The PD will have demonstrated ability to work in complex environments and manage diverse teams to deliver impact within agreed timelines.
The PD plans, monitors, directs, and organizes project personnel, activities, schedules and budgets. He/She is accountable for ensuring adherence to fundamental project management principles throughout the entirety of the project life cycle. Central to the role is the identification, selection, development, and performance management of project personnel, as well as the strict compliance to budgetary planning, monitoring, and reporting processes and regulations.
The PD will be responsible for ensuring compliance with FHI 360 policies and procedures, in consultation with the Portfolio Director and WAMERO regional platform, as well as, technical excellence in consultation with technical experts from FHI 360’s technical departments.
Accountabilities:
Desired knowledge, skills and attributes
• Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with program management
and technical development.
• Strong expertise in the management of complex projects – experience with projects in the
public health, collaborative scientific research projects and/or research commercialization
fields and/or economic development, exportation, increased employment, handicraft value chains a plus.
• Extensive network of contacts in the Tunisian healthcare sector and/or private sector, including economic growth activities, preferred,
•Networks among professional associations such as, the Ministry of Health, the National Office of Tourism, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Agriculture and private medical supply and healthcare providers.
• Strong management skills and ability to analyze project results and data.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.
• Skilled at relationship building and network development with organizations and individuals.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to represent FHI 360 in high profile situations with funders and counterparts.
• Knowledge of US Government rules and regulations.
• Excellent and demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to influence, motivate, negotiate, and work well with others.
