Background

For the moment, the most appropriate means of communicating about climate change in some countries and regions are very limited.

Within the framework of implementation of the project “Enabling a new conversation across the Arabic speaking worlds (GCCNP)” that aims are to: enable national level organizations in Tunisia to design and test the most effective language and narratives for communicating climate change with their priority audiences; produce Insights into narratives across the Arab world.

The goal of this project is to change the discourse on climate change in the Arab world to strengthen public action against climate change; to build capacity for communication of climate change in other selected countries in the region and to disseminate findings for use by others globally.

The projectfunded by KR foundation,and implemented in partnership between Climate Outreach, Climate Action Network International CAN-I, Climate Action Network Arab World CANAW and Earth Hour Tunisia Association (EHTA); began in April 2019 and will be finishing by the end of April 2021.

Firstly, it was executed in Tunisia by EHTA in partnership with9 other associations in different region of Tunisia. And it results in a report detailing the used mythology and giving hypothesis on the successful languages to use in communicating Climate Change to different categories of people in Tunisia.

In order topromote results of the report in Tunisia, a communication campaign is now running on and it has been launched by a production of a 2D video (please find it on our Facebook page) and a webinar. Activities of the national campaign will be continuing in the next 3 months and will be launched online to avoid any risk of contamination.It will be focused on results related to the thematic “Water and Climate Change”.

A first draft of the concept note of the national campaign has been already discussed and will be needing deeper developmentthat will be discussed with the future coordinator.

The message testingfindings and methodology are now taking further in additional countries in the region (to test their applicability and use them to strengthen advocacy and campaigning efforts. The project’s leanings will then be shared more widely using a micro-site library.

Key objectives of the project are:

• Create new communication narratives with key audiences
• Build the communications capacity of practitioners in the target region, starting with a specific focus on Tunisia
• Shift the narrative
• Create wider influence

Responsibilities of the project coordinator:

The project coordinator’s role will be focused on implementing of the activities of the national campaign (including logistic), reporting and coordinating with the CANAW regional coordinator and Climate Outreach Organization.

Main duties, tasks, and responsibilities: the assignment will include but not limited to the following:

Project implementation

• Monitor, follow-up and supervise the implementation of the national campaign;
• Develop a detailed work plan
• Coordinate and communicate with the national project partners (9 CSOs)
• Coordinate and communicate with the regional coordinator of Climate Action Network Arab Word (CANAW), Climate Outreach and CAN-I (mailings and e-meetings)
• Provide reports and update information related to the project activities progress
• Prepare monthly timesheet

Logistical preparation

• Prepare activities for the national campaign

Support Earth Hour team in fundraising and project portfolio development

• Develop concept note and proposals
• Find opportunities of funding (national and international)

Duration and location:

The appointment will be for 3 months from February 1, 2021 to April 31, 2021 and work will be totally online with obligation of face to face meeting at least 1 time per month.

Favor and payment terms:

• Net salary of 1400TND
• Social Insurance
• The contract may be renewed or extended if new funding received.
