Search in Tunisia

SFCG’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. SFCG works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. SFCG-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, SFCG-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia. We are searching for…

SFCG is currently recruiting for the position of Project Assistant, in the framework of our UK funded project “Engaging Youth in Addressing Regional Inequalities in Tunisia”. This project’s overall objective is to foster a culture of open dialogue around key issues of marginalisation and inequality prevalent in local communities that will serve as a means to build trust and collaboration between youth and local authorities.  The project will be implemented within two target municipalities in Sousse, 

As tools to achieve the Theory of Change, the specific objectives of the project are defined as follows: 

  • Objective 1: Provide youth with a safe space and opportunities to convene effective discussions around key marginalisation and inequality issues in their communities to express their voices in creative and peaceful (non-violent) ways in front of local authorities; and 
  • Objective 2: Contribute to a shift that values constructive collaboration, trust, and engagement between youth and local officials through dialogues and discussions.

 

Your contribution

The Project Assistant will be responsible for supporting or reinforcing the implementation of this project and will directly support the Project Coordinator. The Project Assistant is expected to have fluent communication and maintain excellent relations with partners/local authorities and communities youth. S/He might have to lead and directly implement activities. The position will report directly and primarily to the Project Coordinator, as well as to the Program Director and Country Director. 

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct programmatic, administrative and financial duties related to all aspects of project implementation, as instructed by supervisors;
  • Maintain effective communication systems and ensure information flow between projects and relevant parties and partners;
  • Visit partner organizations and conduct field missions as necessary in consultation with the supervisors and make travel arrangements for site visits;
  • Prepare tracking documents for meetings, and update tracking tools regularly;
  • Taking meeting minutes, typing and distributing to stakeholders and partners;
  • Arrange necessary logistics for the activities of the project, such as workshops and trainings e.g. organize accommodation for participants, photocopy of materials, arrange transport, etc.;
  • Manage project calendars (scheduling meeting, lunches, etc.);
  • Research and gather materials for the project;
  • Compile site visit and activity reports throughout project implementation to monitor progress of activities and highlight results, challenges, any deviations from projected work plans, and successes;
  • Help prepare activities’ reports as well as quarterly narrative reports for donors, in compliance with SFCG and donor requirements and in collaboration with SFCG’s regional team and HQ;
  • Apply always gender equality and social inclusion lenses to all programmatic aspects, with special emphasis on hard-to-reach youth (potentially: young women and girls, youth with disabilities, youth with drug addiction problems, youth in conflict with the law, NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), homeless youth, and those adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis);
  • Contribute creative ideas for program development and develop technical and financial proposals to local and international donors to sustain the ongoing program;
  • Upon request, attend representational meetings with donors, NGO coordination, local authorities, Ministries and other potential actors;
  • Be engaged in the continuing development of the organization, its mission and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge, particularly contributing to its Institutional Learning; and
  • Translate documents from English/French to Arabic and vice versa.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

 

شروط الترشّح

  • Education Current or recent graduate in International relations, Human & social sciences, conflict or security studies, or a related field; Master's Degree preferred
  • Professional Experience 1 to 2 years of professional experience in a similar position with a national or international non-governmental organization or similar experience in a non-profit organization; Interest in peacebuilding and conflict transformation; Experience in civil society organization; Experience working with youth – hard-to-reach youth preferred; Strong understanding of political and social context in Tunisia, especially in the southern region; Willingness to regularly travel on short notice; Computer proficiency; and Excellent written and oral Arabic, English and French.
  • Job Knowledge and Skills Excellent coordination, communication (verbal and written) and networking skills; Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often challenging environment with minimal supervision; Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail, and coordinate and compile information from various sources; Demonstrated experience working with local partners; Ability to work with people at all levels, ranging from high-level officials to community leaders and youth; Strong ability to multi-task and work independently; Committed to gender equality and social inclusion values; Flexibility and capacity to adapt to evolving contexts; and Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way.
