JOB DESCRIPTION

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN organization in the field of migration works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration, for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Under the overall guidance of the IOM Tunisia Chief of Mission and the overall supervision of Research, Grants, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer and the direct supervision of the National Program Officer, the successful candidate will be tasked to assist the implementation and reporting of social cohesion project’s activities and to overall support the migration and development unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Assistant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities.
  • Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics.
  • Monitor budget; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget related information.
  • Support administrative organization of project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
  • Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
  • Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations and other forms of documentation.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
  • Assist the organization and participation in meetings with key local stakeholders (local Government institutions, CSOs, etc.) and the private sector, inter alia, taking minutes of the meetings, brief notes/notes for the file.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

SKILLS

  • Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously within people at different levels within and outside organization and with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
  • Candidate should be highly motivated with dynamic personality and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of computer literacy (MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook); experience in handling web-based management system.
  • Organizational and planning skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in all three languages (Arabic, French, English);
  • Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously within a team of colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.

Languages 

REQUIRED

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

For all applicants, fluency in Arabic, English and French is required (oral and written).
