Context of the position and key challenges
Through its office in Tunis, Acted is providing development assistance and support to the most vulnerable across the country, whilst also supporting nascent civil society, businesses, and local governance initiatives. Acted has implemented several projects over the years, either as the Lead Agency or as the technical support within a consortium of local CSOs. More specifically, Acted has contributed to promote the active role of Tunisian youth in public life and in local development through building bridges between young people in the Maghreb region. Acted in Tunisia has three main pillars of intervention: 

  • Promoting citizen action and youth participation, by educating on citizenship, democracy, digitalisation, and sustainable development, strengthening youth leadership and creating spaces for multi-stakeholder dialogue. 
  • Promoting democracy, good governance, and the role of civil society, by strengthening the institutional capacities of civil society organizations, supporting the implementation of civil society initiatives with a high impact on 3Zeros and by establishing mechanisms for participatory democracy. 
  • Encouraging inclusive economic opportunities, by raising awareness and mobilizing around the social and solidarity economy and circular economy and by supporting innovative economic initiatives to address environmental and socio-economic inclusion issues. 

Acted has been present in Libya since 2011. With bases in Tripoli, Benghazi, Derna and Sebha, Acted is implementing a robust portfolio of over 100 humanitarian assistance and development projects. Acted Libya’s interventions are built around three pillars: 

  1. Strengthening the protective environment and providing durable solutions for the most vulnerable 
  2. Strengthening civil society and local governance 
  3. Inclusive and sustainable economic growth 

The Project Assistant will be part of the Programme Development Department and support mainly on a project implemented Tunisia, but also support the overall work of the Department in both Tunisia and Libya.

 

Key roles and responsibilities 
As part of the Project Development Department, the Project Assistant will primarily be working on the project “Coordinated Response to the Rise of Violent Extremism in Tunisia” and also support on key tasks of the Department in general (covering Tunisia and Libya).  

 

The project “Coordinated Response to the Rise of Violent Extremism in Tunisia”, operating in five governorates including Kasserine, Kef, Sidi Bouzid, Jendouba, and Tunis, aims to raise awareness among Tunisian youth, particularly in regions hardest hit by economic and social crises, to combat stereotypes and extremist discourse. In partnership with various local stakeholders and ministries, it seeks to develop innovative approaches to promote intercultural dialogue, gender equality, and active citizenship participation. The main challenges lie in the need to strengthen youth confidence in institutions, effectively coordinate actions at the local level, and ensure the sustainability of extremism prevention initiatives while addressing the specific needs of the most vulnerable regions. 

  • Coordinating and monitoring the project entitled ”Reponse coordonnee a la montee de l’extremisme violent dans les regions pe Tunis, Jendouba, Kef, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine”

    1. Support the coordination of activities between the donor We Love Sousse, the partners FJCC, ATDeF, ADO+ and Acted to ensure the successful implementation of the project

    2. Prepare and support the reporting of activities of the project

    3. Implementing monitoring and evaluation activities in the field in a reliable, accurate and transparent manner, including primary and secondary data collection, reporting on results, and supporting the development of tools and methodologies

    4. Updating, organizing and maintaining a beneficiary data base
  • Support the Project Development Department 
    1. Contribute to communication efforts for Acted projects in Tunisia and Libya;

    2. Support project coordination through preparing and participating in project review meetings

    3. Support the timely planning and drafting of donor reports for Acted Tunisia and Libya

    4. Support the Project Development Department in administrative tasks

 

Required qualifications and technical expertise
  • Bachelor level education in a relevant field such as International Relations, Development or Political Science
  • 1-2 years relevant professional experience is desirable
  • Previous experience in reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of projects is an asset
  • Knowledge of Tunisian civil society and development issues in Tunisia
  • Understanding of issues related to the prevention of violent extremism sector
  • Ability to work independently and creatively in a multicultural context
  • Ability to multi-task and collaborate with multiple and diverse teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and analytical skills
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • The candidate must be fluent in both spoken and written Arabic, English, and French

 

Conditions
The Project Assistant will be working from Acted’s office in Tunis, Tunisia. 

She/he should be able and willing to travel to Acted’s project sites around Tunisia to conduct monitoring and evaluation missions.
