Title: Program Coordinator 

Length of Assignment: Long-Term 

Reports to: Team Leader, Enabling Environment & Business Development

1. BACKGROUND 

The USAID-funded Visit Tunisia Activity is designed to enhance Tunisia’s tourism potential,  with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth, and for  populations in underserved regions of the country. The overall vision behind USAID’s  investment in Tunisia’s tourism sector is to capitalize on Tunisia’s natural, cultural, heritage and  historical sites to develop a more diversified and high-quality tourism sector that contributes to  broad-based economic growth. The project seeks to achieve the following four objectives: Objective 1: Enhance Tunisia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination; 

Objective 2: Increase tourism-related investments and revenue; 

Objective 3: Improve the enabling environment for sustained growth in the tourism  sector. 

Objective 4: Private sector engagement to expand the offer and quality of alternative  tourism. 

This project collaborates with the relevant ministries, private sector, and donors to advance the  objectives while contributing to the following high-level results: 

Increase in the number of tourists. 

Increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector. 

Increase in tourism revenue. 

Increase in private sector-led investment and innovation in the tourism sector. 2. POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Program Coordinators provide program support to the Enabling Environment & Business Development Component under the USAID Visit Tunisia Activity. Program Coordinators will  support tourism businesses, associations, federations and other private and public stakeholders as  required. These technical roles include such activities as one-on-one market readiness coaching  for enterprises, project management, logistics, and communications support.

  1. DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Program Coordinator position requires strong interpersonal, communication and business  skills to complete the tasks associated with its broad responsibilities, including those listed  below. 

  • Work under the guidance of the Component Team Leader, support the implementation of  component goals through technical and administrative support.  
  • Support the technical implementation of grants awarded by USAID Visit Tunisia in  collaboration with the Activity Funds Team.  
  • Provide field support for the USAID Visit Tunisia Tunisia’s Living Culture, Market  Readiness Program and Tourism Innovation Fund beneficiaries, including face-to-face  technical assistance follow-up. 
  • Support the event team delivering USAID Visit Tunisia Connector Sessions. Monitor project management tools to ensure information remains up to date. Support coordination of USAID Visit Tunisia technical work including arranging  

meetings, taking minutes, reviewing deliverables, etc. Cross check that deliverables are  consistent with the scope of work and that reports are in accordance with USAID Visit  Tunisia Activity and Chemonics International standards.  

  • Support collection of up-to-date, quantitative, and qualitative information for monitoring  and evaluation purposes. 
  • Respond to communication requests and provide follow-up support as needed. Support  the preparation of success stories, project impacts and results from project work  undertaken. 
  • Coordinate with other components/units as required to achieve program objectives. Provide support in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and meeting notes. Other duties and activities as requested by the Team and agreed with the Team Leader. 
  1. QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field – required.  
  • Experience working on tourism project(s) in the development context – desired.  Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English, French  and Arabic required. 
  • Strong social media management and digital marketing skills required, familiarity  with marketplace platforms desired. 
  • Ability to work directly with and coach businesses to improve their online  effectiveness and social media presence. 
  • Strong communications skills required – applicants must have an ability to work in a  professional and cordial manner with all staff members, partners, consultants and the  public.  
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to prioritize work  assignments, to meet deadlines, to proactively solve problems, and to exercise good,  professional judgment that reflects positively on the image of USAID Visit Tunisia  Activity and Chemonics International.  
  • Ability to effectively use computer software, MS Office applications and other  reporting software. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  1. REPORTING 

Program Coordinators report to the Team Leader, Business Enabling and Business Development Component. 

  1. LEVEL OF EFFORT AND PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE 

This position is long-term, on a full-time basis.  

  1. POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

The incumbent consultant must have the ability to travel frequently in Tunisia. Reimbursement  for approved travel will be made in line with the US State Department guidelines. 

  1. LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT  

This assignment is based in Tunis.
