Position Title: Policy Officer

Context
WWF is one of the world’s largest biodiversity conservation organizations, dedicated to halting environmental degradation and building a future where people live in harmony with nature.
WWF has been operating in Tunisia since 1994 and currently has established offices in Tunisia (WWF North Africa, WWF NA). The organization implements its conservation program across the North Africa region, working to protect natural ecosystems and wildlife, promote sustainable living, support policymakers, engage citizens in reducing their ecological footprint, and contribute to environmental education for youth.
Major Functions
The Policy Officer supports the delivery of WWF North Africa’s policy and advocacy objectives. They contribute to policy research, monitor national and regional policy developments, and support engagement with government stakeholders, NGOs, and international institutions to strengthen conservation impact across the region.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct desk research and analysis on environmental policies, including biodiversity, climate change, waste management, freshwater, Marine and Landscape in North Africa.
- Track and synthesize relevant legislative and policy developments at national and regional (e.g., Union for the Mediterranean, African Union) levels.
- Support the preparation of briefing notes, position papers, and reports for internal and external audiences.
- Assist in organizing policy-related events, workshops, stakeholder consultations and participation to international agreement events (COPs,…)
- Support liaison with government authorities, international and regional agreements, treaties and conventions, civil society actors, and WWF network offices to align policy priorities.
- Contribute to policy communication efforts (e.g., policy-related web content, social media, newsletters).
- Maintain an up-to-date database of relevant stakeholders and policy processes.
- Provide administrative support for the PsP & Fundraising unit as well as all Programs under the Conservation department when needed (note-taking, meeting organization, etc.).
Working Relationships
- Works closely with the PsP & Fundraising , all Conservation teams, Communication team as needed.
- Externally, the officer might be in contact with civil society actors, governmental partners, research institutions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or Master’s degree in progress) in environmental policy, political science, international relations, law, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in environmental and conservation issues in North Africa.
- At least 3 years of relevant internship or volunteer experience in policy, advocacy, research, or project coordination, preferably in environmental or sustainable development sectors.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly.
- Fluency in French and English is essential. Arabic is a strong asset.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Familiarity with environmental institutions, policies, or conventions (e.g. CBD, UNFCCC) is a plus.
