Search in Tunisia
SFCG’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of
all parts of society while building their capacities. SFCG works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian
society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. SFCGTunisia
works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local
authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences
and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, SFCG-Tunisia has four main
strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii)
Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia.

SFCG is currently recruiting for the position of School-based Youth Engagement Technical Officer for
USAID Tunisia Resilience and Community Empowerment (TRACE) program, which Search is
implementing in partnership with FHI360. The TRACE program will increase the capacity of communities
to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1)
strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved capacity of
Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. TRACE will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable
communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable
to instability and violent extremism (VE). Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability,
decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), TRACE will consolidate
democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.
Your contribution
The School-based Youth Engagement Technical Officer will serve as member of the technical team
directly managed by SFCG and will report to the School-Based Youth Engagement Advisor. S/he will
support the School-Based Youth Engagement Advisor in planning and implementing the TRACE schoolbased
activities with middle-school and high-school teachers and administrators to provide meaningful
opportunities for youth, as well as activities that build capacity to engage and mentor at-risk youth.
The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Support school-based activities, including:
o Help in supporting middle-school teachers in providing civic engagement courses in 45
schools to engage youth in community-based learning and guided interaction with local
government, service providers, and police;
o Engagement with high-school Student Citizen Councils in TRACE target communities to
implement service-learning activities;
● Support teachers to provide community engagement and service-learning curriculums in middleand
high-schools;
● Support design of at-risk youth engagement strategies and regular in-school mentoring
methodologies;
● Support the development and facilitate referral network for community service providers;
● Support the development and maintain relationships with TRACE target community members,
middle- and high-school teachers and administrators, and institutional beneficiaries, i.e. “Bureaux
d’Accompagnement”, Ministry of Education;
● Support development of community-based activities addressing community-identified
vulnerabilities;
● Conduct technical research and improvement of methodologies, as needed.
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other
duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
Job Knowledge and Skills
● Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in PVE, education and peacebuilding; .
● Excellent coordination, communication (verbal and written) and networking skills;
● Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often
challenging environment with minimal supervision.
● Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail, and coordinate and compile
information from various sources.
● Strong ability to multi-task and work independently;
● Flexibility and capacity to adapt to evolving contexts.
● Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way.

Duration: initial 12 month contract (CDD), extendable for up to 5 years, with start date mid-November
2018.
