Remote Editorial Mentoring for a Community Radio Station

Objectives

Internews is working with media outlets in the MENA region to develop their capacity and audience. As part of its activities, Internews provides editorial mentoring to media outlets to strengthen their editorial skills with particular regard to conflict sensitivity, youth and gender, innovative content.

Internews is looking for a pro-active, professional and enthusiastic Radio Broadcasting Mentor/Trainer who is familiar with the media sector in the Middle East to mentor a local community radio station. The mentor will more particularly focus with mentees on inclusive and innovative content, audience engagement and entrepreneurship.

Note that it’s a home based position and Arabic/English proficiency is a must with possibility of a face to face training in the region.

Scope of Work

In collaboration with Internews, the consultant will:

a) Devise a six-month remote mentoring plan for – and in collaboration with – the community radio station, containing objectives and actions related to their vision, editorial line, output.

b) Regularly communicate with the media outlet editorial team/ representatives through email/ instant chat and organized online consultation sessions (e.g. via what’s app) with the purpose of: providing feedback and recommendations on content, responding to their editorial queries, helping them achieve professional standards and their editorial objectives.

c) Continuously review samples of the media outlet programmes, and assess their progress against their editorial plan.

d) Determine the most effective tools & strategies to engage listeners with particular focus on youth and women.

e) Provide monthly reports to Internews on progress.

f) Manage availability, communication channels, workload and timings according to contracted working days and schedule with Internews.

Allocated time

Equivalent of 2 working days across the month. Note that a standard working day is 8 hours.
