Job title: Translator, Interpreter & Administration Assistant, North Africa Projects (Based in Tunis)

Department: BBC Media Action

Reports to: Country Director North Africa

Duration: To end March 2017

 

 

Purpose of the job

To work closely with the North Africa projects teams to provide high quality translation and interpreting and effective administration support for Libya, Tunisia & Algeria projects. This will include all aspects of project delivery, such as translation of training scripts, articles and project reports, and will at times require working quickly and accurately to tight deadlines. The post is based in Tunis, where BBC Media Action’s North Africa hub is located.

Key responsibilities

  • Interpreting and translation from Arabic to English and English to Arabic as required
  • Interpreting and translation from French to Arabic/English and Arabic/English to French as required
  • Provide a comprehensive range of administrative support to the BBC Media Action North Africa teams and visiting BBC staff and consultants
  • Support the Assistant Project Manager, Office Manager and Trainee Coordinator in smooth running of project and office operations
  • Establish, develop and maintain suitable spreadsheets, databases, and management information and evaluation systems as requested
  • Handle internal and external enquiries in a professional manner, dealing with these to conclusion where possible or referring them to the team as appropriate
  • Undertake ad hoc administrative projects as and when required

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Fluency in Arabic, English and French [Essential]
  • Excellent experience of interpreting [Essential]
  • Strong experience of successful administration in an office environment, ideally in a development or media sector [Essential]
  • Excellent attention to detail, the ability to work speedily and accurately under pressure [Essential]
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint) [Essential]
  • The ability to work independently and proactively, to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and respond flexibly to rapidly changing priorities [Essential]
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to deal confidently and effectively with people at all levels [Essential]
  • Experience of working in the Middle East and North Africa (particularly Tunisia, Algeria and Libya) [Desirable]
  • Knowledge and understanding of media landscape in North Africa, particularly Tunisia, Algeria and Libya  [Desirable]
  • Experience working with organisations and/or individuals overseas and in dealing with different cultures  [Desirable]
  • Experience of working in a media environment or for a Non-governmental organisation  [Desirable]
