Call for consultancy: Expert in Research Data Collection

The International Debate Education Association, Middle East (IDEA MENA) is seeking a consultant specialized in “Research Data Collection” in order to conduct a study on the “Impact of Debating in the MENA region”.

Reporting to the Regional Programs Director, IDEA MENA (based in Tunis, Tunisia); the consultant will have a contract with flexible work hours that will be agreed with the Regional Programs Director.

The IDEA network has offices in Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Tunisia, and the UK. We operate with a network of partner organizations across 60 countries.

IDEA Middle East & North Africa (IDEA MENA) is the IDEA Network’s office in the MENA region. IDEA MENA is registered as a regional NGO based in Tunis since 2013.

The scope of work covers 19 countries from the MENA region (Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen).


Job Position: Consultant

Contract: A consultancy contract with flexible hours that are agreed with the Regional Programs Director

Working hours: The consultant should meet the Regional Programs Director once a week during the work period

Reporting to: Regional Programs Director, IDEA MENA

Location: IDEA MENA Regional Office, Tunis, Tunisia

Gross Salary: IDEA MENA will agree with the consultant on a full package

Expected start date: 15 February 2017

Background:

The debate culture in the MENA region has been absent for many years until the “Uprisings”in the MENA region, when debate programs emerged in order to make the youth voices heard. In the framework of its aim to foster youth voices and strengthen the debate culture in the region, IDEA MENA is seeking to support its future work in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia by conducting a study about “Impact of Debating in the MENA region”.

The objective of the consultancy is to:

  • To collect data about the youth participation in debating in the MENA region.
  • To study the role that debating plays in the MENA region.
  • To study the impact of debating in the MENA region.


Methodology:

Prior to the research:

  • To meet the IDEA MENA team to discuss the deliverables and agree on the main tasks and costs.
  • To discuss the debate main actors mapping conducted by the IDEA MENA team and the workshops flow in each country.
  • To assign roles and responsibilities.
  • To draft the table of content for the “Study Impact”.


During the research:

  • To facilitate the workshops in target countries if needed.
  • To guide the participants to respond to surveys, focus groups and questionnaires.
  • To prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • To prepare reference for users by writing operating instructions.


Post-study:

  • To send a detailed report about each activity highlighting the main challenges and providing recommendations.
  • To assess with IDEA MENA team the work conducted by the partner organizations in each country.
  • To provide a written and electronic document of the study.
  • The consultant will confirm suggested program outline.
  • The consultant will coordinate with the Regional Programs Director who is responsible for the coordination with the partner organizations in each country.

 

 

 

Critères d'éligibilité

  • University degree in social fields and/or research and data analysis.
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic.
  • Ability to travel in MENA countries.
  • Proven understanding of debate.
  • Experience with NGOs.
  • Has demonstrated extensive experience in data collections and data analysis.
  • Has excellent research and academic writing skills, as per proven record.
  • Experience in training and/or facilitating is favored.
  • Knowledge of MENA civil society.
