Providing MSF with an understanding of local, socio-cultural determinants. Supporting beneficiaries with basic information regarding access to medical treatment, transportation and other actors (legal, social, etc) following MSF’s protocols, standards and procedures, in order to create links with the communities and contribute to the visibility an acceptance of MSF.
Main Purpose
Implement gynecological and obstetrician procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth in order to improve women’s reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery and neonatology risks. This will be done in accordance with MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.
Accountabilities
- Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
- Ensure the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
- In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists.
- Plan and supervise the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff in order to ensure both an efficient sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve people’s capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department.
- Supervise the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and available. This will be done in cooperation with the pharmacist and logistic staff, the management.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Operating room
- Supervise all obstetrics and gynaecology activities in the operational theatre
- Coordinate to improve the quality of care regarding all obstetrics and gynae interventions in the project.
- Checks that all obstetrics and gynae interventions are properly registered and appropriate documentation of procedures are done by the national staff gynaecologist.
- Ensure infection control measures and procedures in operating room are in place, known and followed by everyone.
Maternity
- Ensure the proper documentation of care by the national staff gynaecologist.
- Follow up with the national staff gynaecologist to ensure that admission criteria are respected.
- Collaborate with the antibiotics stewardship focal point to ensure that proper and rationale prescription of antibiotics in the operating room and the maternity.
Team Management
- Participate in the recruitment of all national staff gynaecologist (with the support of the field administration manager and the hospital clinical lead).
- Define the training needs of the national staff gynaecologist according to project objectives and needs.
Reporting
- Inform line manager (hospital clinical lead) about any possible serious medical events or complication.
- Inform line manager (hospital clinical lead) of any problems that might be linked to human or material resources.
- Participate in formulation of medical order for operating room and the maternity department.
Requirements
Education
Gynaecology specialist diploma.
Experience
- Essential at least 2 years certified work experience in Gynaecology
- Desirable previous experience with other NGO’s in developing countries
