Project Background

NRGI recognizes that social movements and contentious politics are revealing of deep-seated grievances that CSOs and more peaceful means failed to highlight and address. Funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDF), this project aims to support a peaceful democratic transition in Tunisia by bridging the gap between the government and marginalized oil-producing communities of Tataouine and Kebili and seeks to empower local CSOs to adequately represent local community demands while holding the government accountable, therefore promoting sustainable and constructive dialogue. To do so, NRGI will build on its current partnerships and programming in Tunisia to form and improve the capacity of core networks of CSO actors in Tataouine and Kebili to undertake an effective mediating role between local communities and street-level activists and the government.

 

Purpose of the Call

 

Capacity Building component is one of the core pillars of this project. Through a series of training workshops, NRGI aims to foster the skills and knowledge ofCSOs to improve their operational standards and efficiencyto fulfil a mediating role between government and street-level demands in marginalized oil-producing communities.

NRGI is looking for an experienced networking and coalition-building experts to lead two workshops that will cover the principles of network formation, as well as practical considerations such as coordination mechanisms between various members, roles and responsibilities, and action plan establishment.

 

Consultancy Responsibilities and Deliverables

 

The expert will be guided by NRGI to deliver the following:

  • Conducting 2 training sessions according to the following need (preparation, presentation, and follow-up) according to the following needs:
  • A first training: 2 Days for Tataouine Network: 25 and 26 June 2022 in Djerba
  • A second training:2 Days for Kebili Network: 2 and 3 July 2022 in Kebili
  • Delivering Training materials (it must be sent after each training to be transferred to participants)

 

  • A report detailing the progress of the various training sessions as well as the follow-up work implemented to support the CSOs and specifying the results obtained and theircompliance with the expected results (This must be sent to NRGI staff no later than 15 days after the end of the activities)

 

 

Qualifications

 

It is expected that the expert will possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field including organizational development, social sciences, education, etc.
  • At least 6 years of experience in civil society strengthening, governance, community mobilization, or other relevant programming
  • Coalition/ Network building experience
  • Demonstrated experience in strengthening the organizational and technical capabilities of civil society organizations of various levels of maturity.
  • Technical expertise in smart advocacy, network strengthening/coalition building, public policy, and/or civic engagement
  • Excellent facilitation, training, and mentoring skills in a variety of organizational development and technical topics, with a particular emphasis on communication, networking, advocacy, and natural resource governance• Familiarity with qualitative research methods and strong interviewing skills
  • Knowledge of the energy sector in Tunisia as well as of the related issues the region.
  • Attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in Arabic and French required.
