The Carter Center is seeking a qualified national gender analyst to work alongside an international analyst to conduct a series of focus groups aimed at exploring women’s participation in associational and public life and its impact on their political participation.

The gender analyst will assist the international analyst in assessing and analyzing the participation of women in civil society and to determine the degree of such participation. The research also aims to examine whether there is a disparity between the level of women’s participation in associational life and the rates of political participation examining the ways in which participation in civil society can be a facilitator for increased political participation.

The position will report to the Tunisia-based country representative and the international gender analyst. The position is from the middle of May through the end of June 20120.

 

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

 

Primary responsibilities:

 

Working alongside the international gender analyst, the national gender analyst will:

  • Conduct a literature review on women’s civil and political participation
  • Draft the moderation guide and other focus group research materials in coordination with international gender analyst
  • Coordinate focus group logistics
  • Oversee focus group moderation in the field and produce detailed notes of focus group sessions
  • Analyze focus group data, formulate recommendations, and draft final report in coordination with international gender analyst
  • Conduct secondary desk research as required by the international gender analyst

The Carter Center in Tunisia: Following its international election observation mission, conducted from July to November 2011, The Carter Center retained a presence in Tunisia and monitored the constitutional drafting process and observed both legislative and presidential elections in 2014. The Center remains in Tunisia to monitor the process of harmonizing the ideals of the new constitution with existing domestic legislation and new legislation being considered by the ARP. The Center is also monitoring the preparations for the upcoming municipal elections and working with civil society organizations preparing to observe those municipal elections to strengthen their capacity and share best practices.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • A minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in women’s studies, gender development, and/or related research fields
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing barriers to women’s civic participation and engagement
  • A degree in women’s studies, gender development, or a similar field
  • Thorough knowledge of Tunisian politics and culture; Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to perform well under stress, work within a team, and maintain professionalism at all times
  • Good knowledge of English and French.
  • Experience in translation a plus.
