The internship is in the Web Services Section of the News and Media Division of the Department of Public Information. The section is be responsible for the design, development, maintenance and overall support of the UN’s flagship public Internet website, www.un.org and many related sub sites that are managed by DPI.
The internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the division and availability of the candidate.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Under the general supervision of the Chief of the Wed Development Unit, the incumbent reports to the Information System Officer of the unit.
Within limits of delegated authority, the intern is expected to perform technical and creative functions producing user-friendly, visually appealing and informative public web material, posted on various web platforms and help promote in a positive manner the work of the United Nations around the world.
The intern will be responsible for the one or more of the following duties:
- Using Agile web development methodologies, assist with the design and development of multilingual templates and themes for websites in html, shtml, css or on WordPress and/or Drupal.
- Provide web site administration, scripting and maintenance support, on Linux and Windows platforms.
- Maintaining databases.
- Perform ad hoc tasks/projects as required.
