Title: Monitoring, evaluation, and learning Intern

_____________________________________________________________________________________ 1. BACKGROUND 

The USAID-funded Visit Tunisia Activity is a 5-year project designed to enhance Tunisia’s tourism potential, with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth, and for populations in underserved regions of the country. The overall vision behind USAID’s investment in Tunisia’s tourism sector is to capitalize on Tunisia’s natural, cultural, heritage and historical sites to  develop a more diversified and high-quality tourism sector that contributes to broad-based economic growth. Through this activity, USAID seeks to contribute to Tunisia’s growth and development to offset the negative economic impact of the coronavirus crisis. The project will seek to achieve the following  four objectives: 

  • Objective 1: Enhance Tunisia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination;  
  • Objective 2: Increase tourism-related investments and revenue;  
  • Objective 3: Improve the enabling environment for sustained growth in the tourism sector;
  • Objective 4: Private sector engagement to expand the offer and quality of alternative tourism.  

This project will collaborate with the relevant stakeholders, including the public and private sector, and  donors to advance the objectives while contributing to the following high-level results:  

  1. Increase in the number of tourists.  
  2. Increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector.  
  3. Increase in tourism revenue.  
  4. Increase in private sector-led investment and innovation in the tourism sector. 

2. POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Intern will support all aspects of the Visit Tunisia Activity MEL Plan (AMELP) as well as the management of MEL and other data, work products or other information  the Program may produce. The MEL Intern will participate and support the implementation of all MEL  work is in accordance with USAID regulations, Chemonics international leading practices, and contractual  requirements. 

The Intern’s duties will include data collection, data analysis, data storage on MEL tools and report  preparation. Internship at the VISIT TUNISIA Project will provide the Intern with valuable exposure to a  range of MEL’s approaches, methodologies, and tools while working with an experienced MEL team and  international development professionals.

  1. DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Internship position requires good data analysis and processing skills as well as a strong knowledge of  monitoring-evaluation concepts and approaches to complete the tasks associated with the position’s responsibilities, including those listed below: 

  • Indicator Data Collection, Verification, and Management 

o Collect, verify, and disaggregate indicator data from all Program interventions using a  data collection approach that depends on collection of data/inputs in digital format. o Participate in the Development of SOWs for subcontractors needed to collect  intervention data as needed. 

o Maintain a database containing all indicator data for the Program by intervention and in  alignment with the components of the MEL Plan. 

o Participate to the preparation of questionnaires for surveys, questionnaire analysis and  data consolidation. 

o Keep an up-to-date register of lessons learned based on feedback and comments from  technical teams and stakeholders. 

o Maintain high levels of confidentiality in relation to sensitive and confidential program  implementation data and information. 

  • MEL Reporting 

o Support with program’s reporting needs, reviewing progress against indicators and  results to technical teams and the MEL Manager. 

o Participate in the preparation of MEL inputs into project reports relevant to progress  against the MEL Plan 

  1. PERIOD OF INTERNSHIP  

This is a short-term internship position for three (3) months with the possibility of a three (3) month  extension. It is open to individuals who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, as well as  recent graduates who will be placed under a CIVP contract for a full year. 

PS: note that we could bring on up to 2 interns 

  1. LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT  

This is a hybrid remote/office assignment based in Tunis. The intern will be required to attend the VISIT  TUNISIA office at least two days per week, except when workplace protocols direct otherwise. 

  1. SUPERVISION AND REPORTING  

The Intern will report to the MEL Manager.  

  1. QUALIFICATIONS  

The Intern should possess the following range of qualifications and experiences: 

  • This opportunity is open to candidates pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social  sciences, Political Science, Economics, Data Analysis, or a similar field of study in Tunisia.
  • Good skills on MEL approaches and concepts required. 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills required.  
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Good skills on IT tools and Microsoft Office applications required. 
  • Fluent written and verbal English strongly desired; working levels of written and verbal English,  French and/or Arabic required. 
  • Willingness to travel around Tunisia preferred.  
  • Experience working or interning with USAID projects or other donor entities desired.  
  1. COMPENSATION 

750TND/month for student 

1700TND/Month for graduated.
