Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Communication Specialist to support the Mixed Migration Centre – North Africa to develop and implement a communications and engagement plan and associated outputs that elevate the visibility and profile of MMC’s work across North Africa the management of quantitative data collected by 4Mi Monitors in North Africa.
About the job
The Specialist will support the MMC North Africa team to adapt research and develop content to be used for communication, engagement and advocacy purposes targeting other NGOs, UN agencies, governments and policymakers. To inform content, the Specialist will be required to develop an in-depth understanding of key mixed migration issues in the region, the organization’s principles, and key thematic areas for intervention. Furthermore, the Specialist will be tasked to review and create internal documents and processes; liaise with MMC staff, clients and other stakeholders; and to develop content for communications pieces. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
External Communications
- Collaborate with the MMC North Africa team to identify priority communication and visibility needs and opportunities, and subsequently develop an annual communications strategy and implementation plan. The communications strategy and plan will be designed to elevate the visibility and profile of MMC’s work across North Africa.
- In accordance with MMC’s regional communications plans, develop high-quality, multimedia communications content, ranging from posters, brochures, press releases, event invitations, feature stories, and multimedia and web content.
- Support the MMC North Africa team to identify and establish strategic relationships with media outlets as a means to channel key updates and communication materials.
- Contribute to authoring non-technical organizational content, including organizational information pertaining to the region, reports and strategy documents.
- In collaboration with MMC’s HQ in Geneva, ensure social media activity during events and with the release of new publications.
- Liaise with graphic designers, translators, and photographers to ensure the highest quality of outputs.
Internal Communications and Engagement
- Coordinate with the MMC North Africa team and MMC HQ to ensure that communication products are planned for and developed to compliment advocacy initiatives which MMC contributes to.
- Collaborate with the MMC North Africa Regional Manager and Research & Reporting Officer on keeping track of statistics on page views and downloads of publications (through Google Analytics), as well as of social media content (particularly on Twitter) in line with developing the communications strategy and donor reporting.
- Support MMC North Africa with sharing communications content with headquarters as requested or relevant.
- Support the MMC North Africa team in documenting minutes of key meetings and events.
- Support the team in keeping track of external engagement in the form of (bilateral) meetings, events and information requests and inputting such information into MMC engagement trackers.
- As needed, carry out the logistical organization of MMC events and research dissemination.
Other Tasks
- Stay informed of key issues and events effecting the humanitarian context and MMC’s operations across North Africa.
