Under the direct supervision of UNSMIL Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Support and deliver the provision of clinical and public health services to UN staff and associates in mission areas when and where required
- Coordinate with medical facilties of UN and hosts facilties to ensure delivery of clinical services is optimum in care to mission personnel and clients
- Coordinate medevac cases, monitor progress of patients hospitalized, supervises and advised on cases that requires medical rehabilitation and prolonged outpatient care
- Participate actively in organizing referrals, casualty and medical evacuation services
- Ensure availability of medical supplies and proper functioning of medical equipment;
- Ensure optimum and rational use of resources while respecting medical ethics;
- Implement appropriate training programs for medical staff and develop medical capabilities and capacity (e.g. Basic life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS), Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), health education, HIV/AIDS prevention;
- Assist to manage the procurement of drugs, medical equipment, consumables and medical supplies locally and in accordance with UN system contracts;
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of Mass Casualty Incidence (MCI) Response, Medevac, Casevac Standard operating procedures (SOP), Mortal Remains handling and repatriation SOP, response to multi-hazard emergencies in the Mission Area of responsibility and support office headquarters;
- Support Occupational Safety and Health activities, and all other medical related monitoring and inspections duties
- Participate in medical administrative tasks
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of Business Continuity Planning standard operating procedures and training for the Mission area of responsibility;
- Support and participate in pre-deployment visits, pre-placement and periodic medical examinations, Immunizations for Eligible Personnel, refer staff to respective specialists when necessary, follow-up with specialists within and out miison areas
- Provide health education to clients and advise them on healthy living practices;
- Participate in the planning, management and implementation of adequate infection control measures in the mission health facilities at all levels;
- Undertake day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in clinic, responding to emergencies;
- When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs), the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training;
- Report on all activities under the supervison of CMO and his/her designate on a weekly and monthly basis
- Carry out any other work duties tasked by CMO or designate
Critères d'éligibilité
- Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
- Required degree level: Doctoral degree
- Education - Additional Comments: Doctorate in Medicine (MD) or equivalent in Medicine is required. Residency in one of the medical specialties is required. Registration to practise medicine in own country or another UN member state is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Training (PHTLS) is required.
- Required experience: 60 Months
- Experience remark: A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in patient care in hospital emergencies and primary health care settings is required. Experience in emergency pre-hospital care including retrieval and trauma is required. Experience on public health management and providing medical training is desirable. Relevant working experience in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) - or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable. Relevant medical working experience in international emergency operation is desirable. Relevant medical working woking with medical emergencies in a conflict or post conflict environment is desirable. Relevant medical experience in a multi cultural working environment is desirable.

- Area of expertise: General human medicine (with clinical experience), Specialized human medicine (with clinical experience), Public health
- Area of expertise details: Proficient in computer skills and electronic software tools to carry out medical and administrative duties efficiently. Profiency required in Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet applications for communication and presentation, and ability to learn new software programs.
