Media Trainer (Consultant)

The Munathara Initiative is a registered non-profit organization founded in 2012 with offices in Washington D.C. and Tunisia/Lebanon/Morocco. The Initiative aims at creating an independent and inclusive discussion and debate platform in the MENA region. The Munathara Initiative is working to provide everyone in the Arabic speaking world with a voice regardless of their age, gender or background in order to create a public sphere characterized by evolvability and tolerance towards different points of view.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Oumour Themna project aims to enhance legal literacy among Tunisian youth, fostering a culture of respect for the rule of law. By increasing awareness of legal processes, rights, and responsibilities, the initiative empowers youth to navigate the legal system, make informed decisions, and actively participate in public debates.

Oumour Themna contributes to improving access to justice for youth and promoting inclusive citizen participation through greater availability of information. Within this framework, two main activities are planned:

1. The “Meydan” video podcast series, which addresses local justice issues and human rights topics.
2. The public interest media broadcast radio show.

These activities aim to bridge the information gap by delivering content on legal processes, fundamental rights, and social issues. The Maydan video podcast series and the radio show provide platforms for informed discussions, engaging Tunisian youth in meaningful conversations about their rights and responsibilities. The ultimate goal is to empower youth to actively contribute to policy development, ensuring a democratic and inclusive Tunisia where fundamental rights are protected and upheld.

Position Overview:

The Munathara Initiative is seeking to recruit a Media Trainer who will be responsible for planning, coordinating,
and executing the production of engaging and high-quality radio shows and podcasts. The trainer will work closely with the project team to ensure the delivery of compelling content that meets the organization’s standards and objectives.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

The Media Trainer will be responsible for:

● Providing an overview of journalistic ethics and professional standards in media.

● Teaching the fundamentals of radio presenting, including voice control, audience engagement, and delivery techniques.

● Introducing different journalistic formats, including news reporting and opinion pieces.

● Focusing on radio reporting, providing real-life examples, facilitating practical exercises, and reviewing group-produced reports for improvement.

● Training participants on the principles and techniques of conducting interviews for radio and podcasts.

● Introducing the concept of podcasts, exploring different podcast formats, and providing relevant examples where possible.

Qualifications:

● Media and Journalism Expertise: Advanced degree in journalism, communication, or a related field; extensive professional experience in media, journalism, or radio broadcasting.

● Teaching and Training Skills: Background in education, instructional design, or training; proven ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.

● Experience in Radio Production: Hands-on experience with radio scripting, voice modulation, sound editing, and production software.

● Interviewing and Communication Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in conducting interviews and engaging with diverse sources; strong verbal and written communication skills.

● Research and Content Creation: Expertise in research methodologies, information gathering, and content development; prior experience in translating information into engaging media content.

● Human Rights Knowledge: Background in human rights studies, international relations, or related fields; in-depth understanding of human rights principles and issues, particularly in the Tunisian context.

● Voice Modulation and Presentation Expertise: Training or experience in using voice effectively for radio; demonstrated ability to deliver engaging and captivating presentations.

● Public Speaking Skills: Proven ability to speak confidently and effectively in public; experience in coaching others to enhance their communication and presentation skills.

● Conflict Resolution Skills: Training or experience in handling difficult conversations and controversial topics; expertise in facilitating constructive discussions and managing conflicts.
