Main purpose
Responsible for the day-to-day analysis, testing, installation, configuration, maintenance, documentation, and monitoring of the MSF System offices computing environment during field visits and at the base.
Main activities
Main activities ICT officer have to carry out regularly:
- IT [data]: On-going:
- Installing well-functioning computer networks, connections, and cabling
- Perform troubleshooting to system failures and identify problems to ensure long-term efficiency of a network
- Testing and configuring software and maintain and repair hardware and peripheral devices
- Controlling Wi-Fi-networks
- First line support activities
- Briefing new staff members on ICT policies
- Inventory monitoring in standard documents
- Configuring computer equipment (laptops, desktops, routers, NAS’s, etc.)
- Supporting SAT communication equipment, VSAT, and Ubiquity
- Repairs broken equipment (administration, shipment, and reception)
- Checks on the functionality of the UPS system(s) for IT equipment
- Monitoring of the backup process
- Monitoring of virus detection software update process ,
- Monitoring the performance of the NAS’
- Reporting, for location and mission
- Computer cleaning hard-and software
- Maintaining and testing emergency satellite communication equipment
- Checks on Internet connectivity (through speed- and ping tests) with local ISPs
- Monitoring of Microsoft update process
- Regular project visits at least each 4 month
- Updating computer images
- Check on complete implementation of (mission specific annex to) field ICT policy during field visits and at base
In some missions, ICT officer are also responsible for the support of voice communication equipment. In that case, the main activities are:
On-going:
- Programming VHF / HF communication tools (both by computer and by hand )
- Briefing new staff members
- Advice on HF-Antenna set-up types: advantages/ disadvantages[1]
- Inventory monitoring in a standard document
- Repairs broken equipment (administration, shipment and reception)
- Checks on the functionality of a UPS system(s) for communication equipment
- Performance check of communication tools (proper installation, programming and usage) [during field visits];
- Maintenance (e. g. updates) of BGAN and Sat-telephones
