Search in Tunisia
Search for Common Ground’s (Search) mission in Tunisia is to promote a culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting peace education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia. More information about our Tunisia program can be found here.

We are searching for…
Search-Tunisia is looking for local artists for a new, exciting project that promotes non-violent means of expression and youth participation within their respective communities and with local stakeholders. Search strongly believes that fostering youth engagement locally holds the potential to develop lifelong engagement starting at the level of the community and reaching the national one. Based on this belief, Search will hold within the Engaging Youth in Addressing Regional Inequalities in Tunisia project a reality television program to increase young women’s and men’s interest in constructively participating in politics, peacefully engaging with their national and local governments, and improving mutual understanding and trust. This will ultimately contribute to reaching higher rates of civic youth participation and rebuilding of trust between the former and the local stakeholders therein.

Project overview
Search for Common Ground offers to build on its extensive youth engagement work across all regions of Tunisia to address the lack of positive youth engagement activities at the local level, particularly for marginalized youth. Promoting a constructive engagement of young people with local authorities through activities such as discussions between young people and creative workshops will allow young people to express their concerns about issues of marginalization and inequality at local level, and to suggest concrete ideas to respond to it, by boosting and consolidating their confidence and their collaboration with local authorities. By engaging both young people and local authorities through a bottom-up approach that creates a space for dialogue, this project will help develop a more lasting and constructive relationship between these two groups in Sousse (more precisely in Enfidha and Sidi El Heni).

Your contribution

The local artist will play a key role during the creative workshops. The artist will support the youth in drafting, creating and producing their creative and artistic content during the preparation phase in addition to the workshops day. She/he will also be present during other project activities (the Festivals).
The artist will coordinate directly and primarily with the Project Manager. The working language for this position is Arabic.

Objectives

The artist will be present during the creative workshops to provide substantial support for the participants who will be defining the artistic products they want to develop. The presence of the local artist is key in motivating the participants on the one hand and equipping them with the technical tools to reach the desired final product.

Required Tasks

The Consultant’s roles and responsibilities are divided into the following categories:

  • Presence during the project Events day

This activity is not obligatory, but it could be a plus if possible. At the beginning of the project, selected local CSOs that will be partnering with Search will organize several local activities and booths to advertise for the project, particularly the youth-to-youth talks taking place at the start, in order to incite youth to participate. The artist can participate in these events to attract the target youth and trigger their interest in the project activities.

  1. Presence during the Youth-to-Youth talks:

The youth-to-youth talks are dialogue sessions that will take place in Enfidha and Sidi El Heni among youth of the two regions. These sessions aim at provoking conversations where the participating youth will express their views concerning the areas of marginalization their regions suffer from. The presence of the artist in this activity is requested to detect the artistic needs of the youth during these dialogue sessions. These will later be transformed into creative productions with the supervision of the artists during the creative workshops.

3.Support during the creative workshops

Building on the Youth-to-Youth talks, groups of youth will come together again to jointly develop their own creative products based on their prioritized ideas, primarily looking at drivers of marginalisation and inequality prevalent in their community. These creative products can range from short videos, rap songs, graffiti murals, theatre plays, etc. The role of the artist in this activity central as she/he will be supporting and guiding the youth throughout this process.

  1. Presence during the youth festivals
  • At the end of the project, two youth festivals will be organized in Enfidha and Sidi El Heni where youth will present their artistic creations to local authorities all parties involved in the project. While it is not mandatory, the presence of the artists may be appreciated since they will have accompanied youth in creating their artistic materials.

As descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Experience in developing and designing artistic content.
  • Being originally from the communities of Sidi El Heni- Enfidha or the governorate of Sousse.
  • Having a sense of commitment to project goals and objectives.
  • Having the availability to support the youth during the creative workshops.
  • Be familiar with the needs and specificities of Sidi El Heni and Enfidha.
