Tunisian Youth Leaders organization is a youth led organization which aims to youth inclusion in the decision making process and to create an interactive exchange bridge between decision makers and youth from all the regions of Tunisia.
Description (Project / Eyes on Law 8.0)
Tunisian Youth Leaders (TYL) will monitor presidential decrees and/or other legal texts initiated and adopted during this exceptional period in Tunisia’s political development.
TYL staff and volunteers will keep track of all presidential decrees and legally analyze the content to check their conformity with the constitution, as well as the work of parliament.
TYL’s team will pay special attention to any changes to rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution, as well as to serious shifts in the political powers enumerated by the constitution.
TYL will publish a periodic report on the presidential decrees and will also prepare articles and videos focusing on the composition of the parliament, the constitutional court and the supreme councils of the magistracy and changes in the courts’ powers and responsibilities under the new legal and constitutional system.
TYL will work with other think tanks and NGOs, including in its Law Can network to identify and advocate against any excesses of executive power that touch upon the fundamental rights of citizens. TYL will present its periodic reports and any specific advocacy priorities to the Journalists in regular meetings, in order to promote visibility for its causes and analyses.
Primary Responsabilities
Under the direct supervision of Project Officer, Eyes on Law Legal Officer will support the project by fulfilling the following responsibilities:
Acquire detailed knowledge of the political situation in the country.
Acquire knowledge of international and national commitments and standards for democratic legislations applicable in Tunisia
Establish contacts with legal advisors or staff of civil society groups, and non-governmental organizations relevant to the political process
Build strong links with beneficiaries, partners and/or other stakeholders
Ensure completion/execution of program activities while adhering to legal reports and schedule requirements
Ensure the different meetings arrangements and the reports to the Project Officer and the staff
Prepare drafts, reports, advocacy campaign and formulate recommendations as required for inclusion in the Final Report
Perform tasks outside of Tunis when it’s necessary (other Tunisian regions)
Required Skills and Experience
First level University degree in Law
At least two years of relevant professional domestic or international experience
Excellent analytical skills, Good drafting skills and Sound legal judgment
Ability to work under pressure in a sensitive political environment
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, fluent in English, Arabic and French
Ability to work as a member of a team composed of individuals of different cultural and political backgrounds, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity
Positive and pro-active personality with good interpersonal and networking skills
Computer literate; familiarity with word-processing
