About AWID
The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is an international feminist organization working to be a driving force within the global community of feminist and women’s rights activists, organizations and movements, strengthening our collective voice, influencing and transforming structures of power and decision-making and advancing human rights, gender justice and environmental sustainability worldwide
Overview of the Project
AWID is partnering with Mama Cash and the Guardian on an unprecedented women’s rights and media project involving investigative journalism, film making, editorial analysis and community building via an online platform & social media to contribute to re-framing debates on gender equality and women’s rights. The project aims to: (1) create greater public awareness of the critical work being carried out by women’s rights movements globally; (2) amplify the voices and perspectives of women’s rights advocates not normally heard in mainstream media and policy-making processes; (3) bring these less-heard women’s rights perspectives to the attention of those who shape development in both direct and indirect ways, such as policy makers and donors, with special focus on influencing the post-2015 development debates. The first phase of the project, a dedicated online hub on women’s rights issues, launched in February 2014: http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/series/womens-rights-and-gender-equality-in-focus
