The Carter Center, an international non-governmental organization, is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Political Analyst to join its team in Tunis, during the preparations for and execution of presidential and parliamentary elections in late 2014.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of The Carter Center’s Tunisia country office, the duties of the Political Analyst will include:
- Assess the political environment of Tunisia’s presidential and parliamentary elections and provide regular detailed written and oral briefings on the political environment in Tunisia to the Director and other staff as requested.
- Recommend, coordinate, and participate in senior level political meetings with the Director and/or other staff, to include giving oral and written reports pre- and post-meetings. Serve as interpreter in meetings as necessary.
- Contribute to the drafting of press releases, public statements, and memos as requested, and coordinate their translation into Arabic and French as required.
- Provide input on project activity and planning to the Director and other staff, including staff deployment sites and key local/regional issues.
- In conjunction with the Director, provide a weekly written political analysis report.
- Monitor the Tunisian national media (print and television) and include media coverage analysis as related to the current political context of Tunisia. Attend major political events of note as requested and supply full briefings orally and in writing.
- Maintain liaison with appropriate interlocutors and government representatives as well as obtain the appropriate project-related information such as legislation and regulations. As appropriate and requested by the Director, liaise with other key Tunisian and international stakeholders.
- Brief mission members on important political dynamics and provide training to long-term observers long-term and short-term observers regarding the political and media environment.
- Assist with all aspects of Atlanta staff missions to Tunisia including senior leadership delegation visits. This could include but is not limited to strategic planning, scheduling, operations and logistics.
- Contribute to the preparation of the statement of preliminary findings and conclusions and the final report of the election observation mission. Bear primary responsibility for drafting all report sections focused on the political context.
- Remain available for consultation (phone or email) until the final report is published.
- Other duties as required and directed.
