Title: Junior Translator/Interpreter

- BACKGROUND
The USAID-funded Visit Tunisia Activity is a 5-year project designed to enhance Tunisia’s tourism potential, with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth, and for populations in underserved regions of the country. The overall vision behind USAID’s investment in Tunisia’s tourism sector is to capitalize on Tunisia’s natural, cultural,
heritage and historical sites to develop a more diversified and high-quality tourism sector that contributes to broad-based economic growth. Through this activity, USAID seeks to contribute to Tunisia’s growth and development to offset the negative economic impact of the coronavirus crisis. The project will seek to achieve the following four objectives:
- Objective 1: Enhance Tunisia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination;
- Objective 2: Increase tourism-related investments and revenue;
- Objective 3: Improve the enabling environment for sustained growth in the tourism sector;
- Objective 4: Private sector engagement to expand the offer and quality of alternative tourism.
This project will collaborate with the relevant ministries, private sector, and donors to advance the objectives while contributing to the following high-level results:
- Increase in the number of tourists.
- Increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector.
- Increase in tourism revenue.
- Increase in private sector-led investment and innovation in the tourism sector.
2. POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Junior Translator/Interpreter will be responsible for:
- Translate of technical and administrative documentation and other project materials related to Visit Tunisia.
- Interpret during meetings with partners, counterparts, subcontractors, field visits, and specific workshops and/or trainings.
- Review outsourced translations for accuracy and consistency of meaning, grammar and syntax. Coordinate with Operations Team on outsourcing of translations as needed. • Provides services as writer and editor when needed.
- Support Visit Tunisia project events, seminars, workshops and trainings for related translation and interpretation.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Chief of Party or Finance and Operations Director which are consistent with his/her qualifications, this Scope of Work and activities of Visit Tunisia.
- Create a translation memory/lexicon to be used internally and by outsourced translators and interpreters.
- Written deliverables as designated by the Chief of Party, Finance and Operations Director, and technical staff as appropriate.
- DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to Operations and Finance Director and supports overall project translation/ interpretation requests with required and agreed deadlines.
- Completion of translation of operations, technical and prime contract deliverables.
- Efficient technical interpretation for main languages English/Arabic and French.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Must hold a fiscal ID or an Minimum of three years of translating technical documents in Economic or Tourism business related matters desired, to English/Arabic or French • Translation/ Interpretation ability for the three languages Arabic-French-English • Ability to provide high-quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills (e.g., tact, diplomacy and patience) in the context of dealing with expatriate and local staff members, as well as with USAID representatives and both international and local partners.
- Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation in handling all assigned tasks.
- Previous USAID or other international donor experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, economic or business-related matters preferred.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Ability to travel around Tunisia regions (including overnight stays if needed).
- Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
- Fluent English. Arabic and/or French is mandatory.
- REPORTING:
The Junior Translator/Interpreter will report to the Operations and Finance Director.
- LEVEL OF EFFORT AND PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
The duration of this short-term assignment will be up to 260 days of LOE with respect to a minimum of availability of 2 days per week.

This assignment will be in Tunis, Tunisia.
