BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to help reduce poverty, address development goals, and support people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with the media, civil society, and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure of local media organisations in the countries in which we work.
Our North Africa operations are based in Tunis. From here we deliver a portfolio of media projects, and work to ensure they are delivered on time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and BBC Media Action best practice.
Overall, Purpose of Job
The Junior Project Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the delivery and coordination of projects within BBC Media Action’s North Africa portfolio. This position involves a diverse range of project management activities, including event organization, progress tracking, capacity-building, multiplatform media production, as well as monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities. The role requires significant day-to-day autonomy and the ability to work effectively in English, French, and Arabic-speaking environments, both within the office and on location. Flexibility to work long hours, on weekends, or public holidays may occasionally be required.
Main duties and accountabilities:
- Project Management Support (70%):
- Assisting in the planning and coordination of project activities to align with project goals and deadlines.
- Supporting the organization and management of logistics for project-related events.
- Aiding in the tracking of project progress, monitoring timelines and deliverables.
- Contributing to capacity-building efforts and involvement in multiplatform media production activities.
- Participating in project meetings, offering administrative and strategic planning support.
- Ensuring compliance with BBC Media Action’s policies and standards in all project activities.
- Research and Learning (MEL) Support (30%):
- Collaborating with the Research Manager to track and support MEL activities.
- Conducting interviews and gathering data for project advancement and MEL purposes.
- Assisting in the analysis of MEL data and preparing reports to provide insights for project improvement.
- Engaging in MEL meetings and workshops, contributing to MEL strategy implementation
- Required skills, knowledge, and experience:
- Educational Qualification: A bachelor’s degree in management, Marketing, International Development, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Experience in Project Management: At least 1 to 2 years of experience in supporting project management tasks. This includes assistance with the development, delivery, and monitoring of projects. Direct management of budget is not essential, but familiarity with budget considerations is advantageous.
- Project Coordination Skills: Proven skills in coordinating various project activities, particularly focusing on organizational aspects such as training, event planning, and team collaboration.
- Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Familiarity: Understanding of M&E practices, including experience in conducting surveys and interviews for project assessment and learning.
- Cultural Understanding: Basic knowledge of the media audiences and beneficiaries in North Africa, and sensitivity to their varying needs and interests.
- Report Writing and Documentation: Ability to assist in report writing, including contributing to project proposals and reports.
- Financial Acumen: Familiarity with basic financial tracking and procurement processes within a project context.
- Multicultural Team Experience: Experience working in multicultural and diverse teams, capable of effective collaboration both on-site and remotely.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal abilities, with a proven track record of building effective relationships across different teams and cultural contexts.
- Risk Management: Basic skills in risk assessment and mitigation in a project management environment.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in Arabic and French, with strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work in varied environments and hours, including the flexibility to work occasional weekends or public holidays, as needed.
