Background

I WATCH is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation founded in 2011 and based in Tunis. “I WATCH” is an accredited National Chapter of Transparency International, a global movement working in over 100 countries to end the injustice of corruption. We aim to reduce corruption in Tunisia through advocacy campaigns, citizen engagement and the creation of innovative technological tools

The local governance program’s overall objective is to strengthen good governance assistance in the local councils by improving transparency and internal management. The program also aims to to alternate between practical field work and academic research work

The local governance specialist will work with chief of the local governance program and the other members of the department team to achieve the following objectives

Objective 1: produce technical and academic researches and reports on local governance domain

Objective 2: work closely with stakeholders and provide assistance accentuated on their needs

Your tasks

  • The local governance specialist will have the following tasks
  •  Provide technical assistance to the various institutional and non-institutional partners of the organization
  •  Implementation and monitoring of program activities
  • Preparation of studies and research relating to the local governance programs
  • Follow up with the various departments in the organization
  •  Develop training materials for different targets
  • Deliver training
  • Coordinate with departments and programs within the organization

Your skills and experience

Required

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Law, political science, or other relevant field
  •  Minimum of two (2) years of experience with decentralization initiatives, local governance
  •  Excellent written and spoken Arabic and French. English will be an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience of working effectively in a teamwork environment
  •  Knowledge of the political context of Tunisia, in particular local governance and decentralization
  •  Autonomous, responsible and punctual
  •  Availability to travel in the regions

Preferred

  •   Experience with projects in the local governance fields
  •   Familiarity with international best practices, Tunisian laws and regulations concerning anti-corruption, and transparency
  •   Advanced working proficiency in English
