About the mission:

Working in over 30 countries, Islamic Relief Worldwide promotes sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and disease. We also respond to disasters and emergencies, helping people in crisis.

Islamic Relief provides support regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender and without expecting anything in return. Islamic Relief has been working in Tunisia since 2011, when we supported refugees fleeing violence in Libya as well as host Tunisian communities. Since registering our office in Tunisia in 2012, we have set up and managed camps on the Tunisian border and provided humanitarian services to over 15,000 people. As the camp was wound down, we helped refugees unable to return to Libya to build new lives in Tunisia.

As well as supporting refugees, Islamic Relief has implemented projects in health, water and sanitation, food security, education – as well as schemes enabling poor families to earn a decent living. We also support capacity building of local associations in the country.

Currently Islamic Relief is focusing on the sector of Education in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

MADRASTI ALSEMHA Project:

” MADRASTI ALSEMHA” is a five (5) years project funded by IR partner offices in USA, Canada & Germany. The Project targets 400 schools in the 26 Regional Directorates of Education and focuses on refurbishing the Latrines of the targeted schools, improve the hygiene practices of school children and enhance the extracurricular activities in sector related to Hygiene, Environment and Reading.

MISSION PURPOSE:

Islamic relief Tunisia seeks for a 24 part time volunteers. Based in 8 governorates, for a mission of 6 months. Through a proximity approach. volunteers will visit schools, for monitoring and coordinating hygiene promotion activities as well as supporting WASH team leader & Program staff in implementing project’s activities such as conducting hygiene promotion awareness session for boys and girls, animating health clubs in schools , kits distribution  supervising pupils behavioural change  and reporting School HP  weekly activities

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Has regular contact with project staff, to follow up with the implementation of Hygiene promotion activities along with school club creation (The volunteer will have to travel to Tunis for quarterly meetings with the project team.)

SCOPE AND AUTHORITY

Scope of the Role:

Hygiene Activities Service providers are in charge of conducting hygiene sessions in schools and ensuring that the program meets Islamic Relief Quality Standards. WASH volunteers will provide support in the implementation, reporting and monitoring of WASH project’s activities.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESOURCES:

  1. Conduct Hygiene Promotion activities in schools, promote effective use of latrines and safe water, and conduct the following up
  2. Support WASH Team during Hygiene Kits Distribution & School cleaning campaigns Event.
  3. Prepare weekly report and sharing it with Project Staff.
  4. Participate in the preparation and execution of Regional and National WASH events/activities.
  5. Any Additional Responsibility Assigned by Project Staff.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    The mission holders are accountable for fulfilling his or her roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic relief core and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of his/her colleagues.

    Results:

  1. Ensure the visibility of the Project in the intervention areas through the development of health clubs already created or outstanding creation that find a difficulty in communication about their activities.
  2. Guarantee access to information in relation to the various components and expected results of the project
  3. Ensure a better understanding   of schools needs and dynamics at the local level.
  4. Collect and disseminate all beneficiary information in the targeted governorates.

    KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervision Received

    The mission will receive instructions from Project Staff of his/ her region With Regular contact with the project staff.

    SPECIAL NOTE:

    The Hygiene activities Service providers holding this position must expect that his / her performance will be measured in part against the standard set forth in his/her JD. However, the JD is subject to revision to be further consistent with positions level of responsibilities necessary to fulfil IR objective in the country.

    WORKING CONDTIONS:

    Working conditions and duration:

  • Mission period: 6 months
  • The Service Providers’ work is part-time.
  • There will be a training, and induction prior their working period start
  • The mission will start from end of October.
  • The duty station will be in different regions.
  • Service Providers are expected to spend almost 90% of their time on the field.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

It is essential that the post holders show a good understanding of the Islamic Relief Core values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide vision and mission.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Education Qualification & Work Experience:
    • Minimum Applied License (Animation, WASH, Education, children Education & care or any similar area).
    • Residing in one of these 8 governorates (essential): Siliana, Kasserine, Kairouan, Gafsa, Sidi Bouzid, Medenine, Tataouine, Gabes.
    • Previous experience in WASH and Hygiene promotion activities.
    • Solid knowledge of spoken and written Arabic and French ; English is a plus.
    • Interest in associative work, member of a volunteer network is a plus
  • Knowledge & Preferred Skills
    • Good knowledge of associative dynamics in his region;
    • Good communication skills to establish relationships with schools in the region;
    • Good interpersonal skills, organizational skills;
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and commitment to teamwork;
    • Analytical & Problem-solving skill
