Purpose of the position the psychosocial support o­cer will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy of the psychosocial activities for refugees and asylum seekers in medenine governorate. S/he will be responsible for the overall activity of counseling and referencing of refugees and asylum seekers in the south of tunisia. Moreover, he/she will be responsible for :

1. Organizing counseling sessions,
2. Focus group discussions with beneficiaries;
3. Identifying the ones who need more structured counseling ;
4. Documenting and reporting the cases to the pc for review
5. Helping them receive support and referrals for further care.

SCOPE

The psychosocial support o­cer will be conducting counseling sessions, focus group discussion, identifying special cases and creating data base of the counseled beneficiaries. In addition to that, he/ she will be responsible for referencing and recommending the needed support for the counseled refugees as well as ensuring follow up and additional session for special cases. The psychosocial support o­cer will be working full time during the contracting period and will be reporting directly to the pc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Main activities:

• Conduct counseling sessions for refugees and asylum seekers in medenine governorate.
• Organize regular biweekly focus group discussions for beneficiaries.
• Organize in coordination with the pc a planning for counseling and fgd sessions.
• Identify special cases that need additional support during counseling sessions and report them to the pc.
• Establish a database for counseled beneficiaries and update it on regular basis.
• Create and fill in the individual counseling sheets for the counseled beneficiaries.
• Share counseling and fgd sessions reports with pc.
• Ensure the maintenance of documents and archive in the o­ce.
• Recommend the required support for counseled beneficiaries.
• Ensure follow up and documentation the counseled cases.
• Participate in the regular coordination meetings of the project’s management team.
• Receive referrals from dierent agencies and local actors and provide feedback of actions taken.
• Ensure unhcr pss components are on track and the development of new materials for awareness-raising.
• Liaise with local partners (association, youth club, social centers.) and communities on areas for pss interventions – including liaison with communities on mobile activities.
• Support the team in additional tasks when requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential qualifications:

• Bachelor/ degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other related field.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of client at all times.)

Essential experience:

• At least 2-3 years of experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically working with cases of child protection or GBV.
• Experience in providing trainings and building capacity of sta.
• Preferred: master’s degree in social work and / or psychology

Knowledge

He incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas :

• College degree in psychology.
• Familiar with the child protection policies
• Past experience in working for ngos for at least 3 years
• Usage of ms o­ce , internet and mailing
• Familiar with the context of refugees.

Skills

He incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

• Eective listening and communications skills
• Eective written and spoken skills in english
• Past experience in humanitarian field
• Ability to work in a team.
• Organized and punctual
• Good experience in conducting counseling and referencing.
