Islamic Relief Tunisia (IRT) est une organisation non gouvernementale de Solidarité internationale à vocation sociale et humanitaire, membre de la famille IRW (Islamic Relief Worldwide met actuellement en place un projet de soutien des refugiés et demandeur d’asile à Médenine souhaitant recruter une Sociologue/ Assistante du Travail Social.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Sociologist will be responsible for implementing in coordination with Psychologist the psychosocial activities for refugees and asylum seekers in Medenine Governorate. S/He will be responsible for the activities of counseling and listening of refugees and asylum seekers in the south of Tunisia. Moreover, He/She will be responsible to:

1. Organizecounseling sessions and identify the needs of the beneficiaries
2. Group Discussions with beneficiaries
3. Support the psychologist in conducting field visits to refugee families
4. Documenting and reporting the cases to the PC for review
5. Advise and provide sociological support
6. Listen carefully to the beneficiaries
7. Analyze the needs of the beneficiaries and prepare quality reports.

SCOPE

The Sociologist will be conducting counseling sessions, Group Discussion, listen carefully to the beneficiaries and analyze their behaviors and problems. In addition to that, He/ She will be responsible for providing recommendation about the needed support for the counseled refugees as well as ensuring follow up and additional session for special cases.The Sociologistwill be working full time during the contracting period and will be reporting directly to theProject Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES

Main activities :

• Conduct counseling sessions for refugees and asylum seekers in Medenine governorate
• Organize regular biweekly Group Discussions for beneficiaries in coordination with the Psychologist
• Listen carefully to beneficiaries’ concerns and problems
• Identify special cases that need additional support during counseling sessions and report them to the PC.
• Keep records of the counseled beneficiaries in confidential files
• Create and fill in the individual counseling sheets for the counseled beneficiaries
• Prepare and submit case studies reports to the PC
• Prepare and submit biweekly and monthly activity reports to PC
• Conduct field and home visits to refugee families in the governorate of Medenine
• Recommend the required support for counseled beneficiaries
• Participate in the regular coordination meetings of the project’s management team
• Provide Sociological support and orientation for beneficiaries
• Ensure to treat all information about beneficiaries with utmost confidentiality
• Support the team in additional tasks when requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

a) Essential qualifications:

• Bachelor/ Degree in Social Work, Sociology Counseling, Psychology or other related field
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of client at all times.
• Good experience in this field
• Very good listening skills
• Very good communication skills

b) Essential experience:

At least 2-3 years of experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically working with cases of Child Protection or GBV;
• Experience in providing trainings and building capacity of staff.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Social work and / or Sociology

Knowledge

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

• College degree in psychology.
• Familiar with the child protection policies
• Past experience in working for NGOs for at least 3 years
• Usage of MS Office , Internet and Mailing
• Familiar with the context of refugees.

Skills

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

• Effective listening and communications skills
• Effective written and spoken skills in French and English
• Past experience in humanitarian field
• Ability to work in a team.
• Organized and Punctual
• Good experience in conducting counseling
• Good IT knowledge
• Very Good reporting skills in French and/or English
