JOB DESCRIPTION

WWF International expanded its global Youth Engagement Programme for 18-30 year olds in 2024. The Programme, which provides volunteering, internships, grassroots leadership training and virtual mentorship opportunities, aims to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates and leaders, especially young women, in their countries and communities to actively contribute to youth and community-led conservation and help drive positive change.

  • MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

The Landscape & Climate program at WWF NA is implementing projects in Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Libya. It works for better Forest/Landscape Habitat and ecosystem management, Protected Areas development and management effectiveness, and flagship species conservation. It works also on climate policies, improvement of Resilience and adaptation activities. The program also advocates for a sustainable green economy with local engagement and a proper legislative and Policy framework.
  • MAJOR FUNCTIONS

 

The intern will support the implementation of educational and awareness activities in order to convey to visitors of the Botanical Garden of Tunis, the importance of the heritage values ​​of the Garden and as well as the botanical, ethnobotanical, naturalist and environmental knowledge of the Botanical Garden, the intern will play a key role in organising events and delivering training sessions and educational activities, engaging visitors, and participating in outreach efforts to enhance the visibility of the garden.
  • MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Environmental Education & Training

  • Assist in organizing and delivering educational sessions on plant herbariums, species identification, and conservation topics for children and youth.
  • Engage participants in hands-on activities, fostering a connection with local flora and the environment.

Project Implementation Support

  • Support and collaborate the Botanical Garden Program Officer to ensure the smooth execution of the Attijari Bank project activities.
  • Monitor and report on educational sessions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.

Communication & Visibility

  • Support communication initiatives to promote the garden’s educational mission through social media, newsletters, and onsite activities.
  • Contribute to creating educational materials and visibility content such as leaflets, posters, and online content.

Administration and Logistics

  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including event coordination, participant registration, and logistical support for sessions.
  • Maintain records of participants and activities, supporting data collection for project evaluation.

Field Visit:

  • The intern will be solicited to undertake field visits in various regions of Tunisia covering the sites where the Landscape & Climate Change program is leading activities.
  • PROFILE

Required Qualifications. 

  • Recent graduate of a program of study in plant biology and ecology, botany, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Eligible for the SIVP government program


Required Skills and Competencies. 

  • Strong interest in environmental education and awareness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with young audiences.
  • Proficiency in Arabic, French and English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Previous experience in environmental education or communication is an asset
