Role Purpose
The purpose of the documentary director consultant role is to undertake the production of a visual anthropologist film in three marginalized locations within the framework of an EU-funded project. The documentary film of 52 minutes will utilize an anthropologist approach in looking at the interaction between youth, political space and the authorities in marginalized areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Situating this documentary film within the border findings of Alert’s work in Tunisia which adopts a bottom-up approach, including both the research and the documentary film ‘Voices of Kasserine’
- Displaying close attention to images, perspectives, and narratives in the three governorates
- Articulating the film with a sociological lens reflecting, on one level, the environment in the marginalized governorates with the inclusion of the social geography, urban spaces, activities, and villages. On the other level, the inclusion of profiles of individuals utilizing diverse approaches
- Conducting preliminary visits to the three locations to visit different sites and meet various potential interviewees from the varied backgrounds identified by Alert
- Organizing several focus group meetings with the different members of society of various social, occupational, geographical, educational, and economic backgrounds as well as representatives of civil society organizations and local authorities
- Preparing a literature review on the issues that are to be addressed in the film and subsequently using it as a basis for the detailed script which will indicate the mechanisms used to realize the film
- Prepare regular reports following every set of interviews and meetings conducted by the director
- Writing of a detailed script (with an indicative sequence) as well as the story board with the mechanisms and locations indicated by Alert
- A visit of the location to fix the final script
- Shooting of the film in the locations indicated in the script, after the script has been approved and validated
- Sharing a working copy with Alert for commenting, modification, and approval around a third of the time of the finalization of the film
- The editing of the documentary film
- Deliver the post-production processes, including sound processing, animation, images, and voiceover.
- Supervise the calibration, mixing and subtitling of the film
- Supervise the poster of the film
- Support International Alert in screening the film and take part in discussions on the film as the need arises
Travel requirements
Regular travel to all three locations throughout the duration of the contract
