ABOUT THE ILF
The International Legal Foundation (the ILF), an international not-for-profit organization was created in 2001, for the purpose of assisting post-conflict and transitional countries in developing effective legal aid systems. (www.theilf.org). Driven by the belief that every person accused of a crime, no matter their ability to pay, deserves to be represented by a well-trained lawyer the ILF has legal aid programs in Afghanistan, Nepal, Tunisia, Palestine and now Tunisia. In addition to its ground up work establishing the right to defense, the ILF also performs high-level world-wide advocacy, pushing countries, international institutions, and donors to prioritize legal aid as a fundamental human right.
The goal of the ILF’s program in Tunisia is to mentor Tunisian lawyers to provide quality, effective criminal defense services to poor people charged with crimes. The ILF is seeking a full-time finance officer/office administrator to help to manage the program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for this dual position include the following:
Office Administration:
- Maintain confidential personnel records; to include salaries, staff benefits and employee attendance sheets
- Ensure that the office is functioning properly; working with the landlord and others on potential office issues.
- Set up meetings; this could entail looking for venues, inviting participants; purchasing food and supplies for meetings
- Provide translation as needed and requested from program staff
- Ensure that equipment is working properly; and if needed, getting items to be repaired
- Order supplies as needed
- Make travel and lodging arrangements as needed
- Troubleshoot office issues as they arise
Finance Tasks:
- Ensure that staff/consultants and payroll taxes are paid correctly and in a timely manner
- Ensure that invoices are paid correctly and adhere to budgets and ILF financial guidelines
- Keep records of financial transactions for the organization, including accounts payable and receivable (consistent with accounting standards for nonprofit agencies)
- Maintain and distribute petty cash
- Use and review vouchers and purchase orders, and reconcile bank and petty cash statements and balances, to verify, allocate, and post details of business transactions to relevant accounts
- Regularly review actual expenses to budgets and analyze for potential budgetary issues
- Prepare expense reports to be distributed to ILF headquarters and / or funders
- Ensure that all federal and local reporting documents are prepared
- Work closely with ILF headquarters finance staff in preparing financial reports
