In the Middle East and North Africa, the DIHR works with the state actors of the national human rights systems with emphasis on governmental human rights focal points, national human rights institutions and public independent actors. This work is based on more than 25 years of experience.
The DIHR is looking for a Head of Office in Tunis, Tunisia. It is a newly established position that covers the DIHR presence in Tunisia and is closely linked with the rest of our work in the Middle East and North Africa. As the bulk of the DIHR work in the region takes place in Tunisia, it is expected that the Head of Office will lead the consolidation of the DIHR presence in Tunisia to ensure a coherent and well-functioning country office as well as strong links to DIHR’s other activities in the MENA region and which may eventually lead to the gradual development of a fully fledged regional hub for MENA.
YOUR WORKING AREAS:
As a Head of Office you will:
- Represent and create visibility around the DIHR engagement in Tunisia with the Tunisian authorities as well as local and international actors and interlocutors.
- Ensure coherence and complementarity between the various DIHR activities and projects in Tunisia.
- Lead efforts to develop a DIHR strategic framework for Tunisia which is aligned with the overall strategy of the DIHR.
- Contribute to identifying and explore potential for new DIHR engagements in the Middle East and North Africa including the development of relevant concepts.
- In Tunisia, identify opportunities to raise funds and lead new engagements
- Liaise with relevant partners and donors in Tunisia in close co-operation with colleagues.
- Manage the office including human resources, legal, financial and administrative aspects in coordination with the relevant departments at the main office in Copenhagen.
- Manage one or more projects that are carried out in Tunisia.
- Ensure that programme and projects are implemented according to plan, in line with the complete project cycle and the rules and regulations of the DIHR.
- Support, coach and guide colleagues in managing, implementing and monitoring projects
- You will ensure that plans and reports are drafted in coordination with project managers at the main office and you will work closely with advisors and other colleagues
- Take a leading role in the organisation of DIHR activities in the Tunisia office
- Take the lead in representing DIHR towards relevant Tunisian authorities.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience with human rights work in the Middle East and North Africa
- Demonstrated management experience
- Strong leadership skills and in-depth experience of project management
- Comfortable engaging with a variety of stakeholders at different levels
- Experience in driving human rights change with a diverse group of project managers and advisers
- Excellent analytical, organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of and experience with fundraising for knowledge-based endeavours.
- Fluency in English. Proficiency in Arabic and/or French is considered an asset.
About the position:
- This is a 1 year position with a possibility of extension
- The position in based in Tunis, Tunisia with some travel.
- The ideal start date is 1 November/December 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter
- It is a full-time position with a weekly average of 40 hours.
- Terms and conditions of work, incl. salary will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience and the contractual terms will be aligned with relevant Tunisian labour legislation. The employment will be regulated according to national legislation and standards and the salary is regulated according to duty station.
