Context:  

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and  communications to help reduce poverty, address development goals, and support  people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with media, civil  society, and others to produce creative programs and other outputs which inform and  engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector  through building professional capacity and infrastructure of local media organizations in  the countries in which we work.  

Our North Africa operations are based in Tunis. From here we deliver a portfolio of  media projects in Tunisia, Libya and Algeria, and work to ensure they are delivered on  time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and  BBC Media Action best practice.  

Objective:  

We are seeking a skilled and experienced legal counsel/lawyer to represent BBC Media  Action North Africa in legal matters. The selected candidate will provide legal advice,  representation, and advocacy ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.  

Responsibilities:  

  1. Provide legal counsel and guidance on INGO legal matters, including but not limited to legal advice, representation, contracts agreements and advocacy.
  2. Offering legal advice and opinions on matters related to the organization’s operations, including compliance, governance, contracts, and other legal issues.  
  3. Representing the organization in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation, as necessary. 
  4. Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making processes.  5. Draft, review contracts, agreements, and legal documents.  
  5. Represent BBC Media Action North Africa in legal proceedings, including litigation and arbitration.  
  6. Collaborate with the management to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.  
  7. Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to INGOs operations and  
  8. Assist in developing and implementing BBC Media Action North Africa policies and procedures.

Qualifications:  

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.  
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience practicing law, preferably in INGOs fields. 
  3.  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  4. Excellent communication and negotiation skills in Arabic, French and English. 
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  2. Financial Offer listing all services pricing.  
  3. At least two professional references ideally from INGOs

Selection Process:  

  1. Initial review of applications.  
  2. Scoring of candidates.  
  3. Final selection and offer.
