FHI 360 is currently recruiting for the position of Environmental Specialist for an anticipated USAID project, Tunisia Resilience and Community Empowerment, that is expected to promote resilience at the community level, with the goal of addressing drivers of VE, building community engagement and identity, and strengthening social cohesion between marginalized populations and the rest of Tunisia.

Job Summary

The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for developing environmental assessments for community development activities, including small-scale construction and infrastructure projects. S/he will ensure the project’s compliance with FHI 360’s environmental guidelines as well as local Tunisian and USAID environmental requirements.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Deputy Chief of Party to develop an environmental impact assessment for the project’s compliance with local and international environmental standards, working closely with USAID to adjust project activities as needed;
  • Help prepare environmental screening forms and environmental mitigation and monitoring plans for relevant community development activities;
  • Prepare annual environmental status reports to USAID;
  • Train staff and partners on environmental monitoring of community development activities and carry out period monitoring visits in TRACE target communities; and
  • Present environmental monitoring information to local and USAID counterparts.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • BS/BA or its International Equivalent in environmental science, engineering or policy, or a related field;
  • At least 8 years’ professional work experience, including at least three in environmental compliance;
  • Experience with U.S. Government rules and regulations, and experience working in an international NGO environment, desirable;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures associated with environmental protection, monitoring, and compliance;
  • Excellent and demonstrated organizational and presentation skills;
  • Excellent and demonstrated project management skills;
  • Fluent in written and oral Arabic and French; English preferred.
